FYI, they don't like it when you ask for more than you're offered. Apparently it's not usually a negotiated settlement.

If this doesn't pass, they'll have to go to funding plan B -- letting filthy rich people buy a walk on top of the Arch for about $100K a pop. This guy brought his friend who was cut in half, apparently, in another tragic transporter accident on the way up.

Just FYI - public engagement going forward is good, though it won't change any of the Arch grounds design.

Absent any kind of tea party turn out in the county, I'd say those are fair guess-timates. (Not saying tea party are the only opponents, just the only opposition group that could turn out large numbers in an off-year election.

I already voted; looks like pretty low turnout in the city as expected. I wonder if a way to increase turn-out in off elections in particular is to put something non-binding on the ballot. For example, "Which college basketball team is better: Saint Louis University or Mizzou?" or "What is the best craft brewery in the City?" "Miss-ur-rah or Miss-er-ee?" Winner gets an official proclamation from the Mayor.

I would be surprised by that big of a Prop A victory. What did Metro win by in the County?

PostApr 02, 2013#60

Well, maybe you are right, Alex. County voters passed the Prop A Metro tax in the April 2010 election with 63% of the vote.

^ A 36% gap for transit tax? Can't imagine parks would be less, but we'll see. There was zero organized or even vocal opposition encouraging a "no" vote. Prop P was a million dollar campaign. Pass it will, but anything close would be a real indictment of the effort (IMO).

Prop A Mtero tax passed by 25 points in Apr 2010. Prop M metro tax failed by 3 in Nov 2008. Prop C GRG tax passed by 39 in the county, 43 in the city, 13 in St Charles Co in Nov 2000. Prop C campaign was $1.5M.

I think I was the only voter in the 28th ward at lunchtime today. This will be decided by a very small group of voters.

Ya know, I heard people call in on KMOX this morning saying that the City ballot language said that St. Charles County was included in the vote. I figured that couldn't possibly be true. But it is. Welcome to St. Louis.

I wonder if the PD will report on this in light of the fact that they backed the tax increase.

I really don't see too much of a problem here. Yes, it would have been better had the ballot mentioned that the tax would only go into effect if Saint Louis County approves (and this would have made yes votes even more likely than the existing language) but the fact is the enabling statute involves the three counties and nothing prevents Saint Charles County from joining in at a later date.

Got my 7th mailer today. Were they more worried about the city than the county? Or maybe they just know I vote a lot. This one says, "We must act how to preserve our quality of life for future generations." If only I had gotten it yesterday before I voted!

Looks like a slam dunk, up 35 in the city with 46% of precincts counted and up 14 in the county with absentee and 5% counted.

Heard on the radio this morning that it passed in both the city and county. 2-1 in the city and by a few percent in the county if I heard that correctly.

Victory for Prop P
STLtoday story: http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/govt ... cdbbb.html

It's kind of funny... The article I read from the site earlier today showed the voter turnout and percentages of Pro/Con votes. That's no longer in the article. IIRC, the City was in the neighborhood of 67%/33%, and the County was much closer, something like 54%/46%. But the most recently updated copy of that story, that info's not included.

Also included in the original story this morning was word that the City ballot included St. Charles County in the phrasing (as bonwich pointed out earlier), and that this may be subject to an obstructionist lawsuit from the County, credited to that same lady in the article who actively campaigned against Prop P.

Self-disclosure: I voted for Prop P, and I held my nose when I did.
