It looks good. Better than I thought it would. Adds some needed height to the loop. 3 or 4 more buildings in this height in the loop would be exceptional

Every time I drive past there, and I've been taking that opportunity more lately just 'cause, I am more impressed with how it's shaping up. Yes, let's continue this to the east. Ideally so far east that Cardinal Ritter's location becomes a real problem and not just a sort of theoretical one.

I'd like more 2-5 story stuff.

Interesting how much auto-oriented properties have been repurposed and replaced in the Loop in the last 4-5 years. First Blick replacing Loop Automotive; then Wash. U. developing the old Meineke site; now The Everly going in where the old Yellow Cab HQ used to be; and Office and retail proposed to replace the Shell station. Hopefully the old Kelly (or was it Dobbs) Tire and Church's Chicken sites continue the trend.

Especially since it's totally against the recommendations of the many TOD plans for the area. Sad that the city is still so into repurposing buildings with zero merit but will demolish architectural gems without blinking an eye.

^In the case of the Loop I think the replacements have generally been entirely consistent with TOD principals. Maybe the only setback in terms of land use has been the new parking lot for the Original Cast Lighting Building, but even then, the repurposing of the lighting warehouse to three storefronts feels like a net positive for that stretch of The Loop.

It's ironic that in the midst of the Loop's building boom, the Delmar Metrolink station itself is a virtual black hole in terms of actual of development considering pretty much all the buildings that surround it remain idle and vacant. This reality leads me to believe that the high-density trend is happening in spite of rail transit, not because of it. It's really unfortunate that developers have largely failed to capitalize on the glaring TOD opportunities that have been staring us in the face for literally decades. The lack of development around the Forest Park/DeBaliviere, Grand, and others is really quite pathetic. In the case of Cortex, MetroLink is following increasingly dense development, not creating it. And how about that Forsyth station on the blue line. It sounds like dirt may finally be moving for real this time, but how long has it taken? And yet that empty Vic Tanny building from the '80s with its big ass parking lot still sits dormant in the most desirable location in the entire metro area. Something is wrong here. I blame local developers for failing to see dollar signs on their own; instead they wait for an official RFP or TIGER grant or a tax abatement to drop in their laps. It's a shonda (Yiddish for "shame") that Metrolink's underperformance can be undianably attributed in part to a dearth of pedestrian-scaled development adjacent to the stations. The saddest thing about it is that so many other cities in St. Louis's peer group would KILL to have a transit system half as extensive as ours.

Maybe with a little luck someone else will be renting them a little south and east soonish. I love cranes, but you have to take them down for most everyday buildings. Unless what you have is a special building where you need to regularly hoist something hundreds of feet in the air. And even NASA only has one of those of that size and the cranes are indoors anyway where you can't see 'em. I feel your pain, but it will be okay in the long run. ;-)

I don't know. The Lloyds Of London building and the HSBC Building both have cranes on them.

Lloyds Of London building by Richard Rogers:

HSBC building by Norman Foster:

Fun fact: the HSBC building is said to have great Feng Shui so they're occasionally point their cranes at the I.M. Pei's Bank Of China Tower to "deflect" its poor / negative Feng Shui

You sure they're not pointing their cranes at the I. M. Pei building and saying "Man, we could have had that"? I've never cared a whit for the Lloyds of London building. It always struck me as far too twee, rather like a bad pun made solid. And dipped in chrome. But I'm apparently feeling like a curmudgeon so I'll try not to comment further on anyone else's favorite starchitect. ;-)

^^Looks like they're bricking up the west side of the building from the top down. Weird.

They're just starting to assemble the storefront portion of the building. It's really coming together.

the Every looks ten times better than that pile of garbage Citizen Park--both in design and execution. i stood and stared up at Citizen Park for a few minutes the other day. the details look like sh*t. and i swear that the west wall is warped near the south end of the building.
