The best steak I ever had was at Shula's in Chicago. This isn't exactly the same place, but hopefully it will be every bit as good.

Per the website... with an explaination of the name.
Shula's 347 is named in honor of Hall of Fame Coach, Don Shula. The winningest Coach in NFL history, with 347 career victories! Shula's 347 follows a long line of successful restaurants, all founded on the same famous tradition of Shula's Steak Houses.
Shula's 347 has everything from gourmet salads to fresh specialty fish and exclusively serves Premium Black Angus Beef® burgers and the best beef money can buy, The SHULA CUT ® steaks. The atmosphere is casual and full of energy, which includes a high impact bar, dark woods and a stunning video system. High-end flat panel screened TVs, dark woods and frames with spotlights, pigskin walls, granite topped tables and dark leather booths offer a different appeal and destination for the local market. The bar becomes a socializing hot spot with wine and martinis for business types, groups or individuals looking for a warm atmosphere or a place to be seen.

Yeah, Shula's Steakhouse is more high end - no TVs, dressier (Dockers & collared shirt at minimum), and basically steaks only - no burgers, etc. This sounds a lot more like a high end sports bar.
I am with CS. This is exciting news. This is the kind of chain restaurant that I want to see in downtown St. Louis. As opposed to many others.
Wow, that's good news. We don't have enough of those downtown. [/sarcasm]The Central Scrutinizer wrote:Yeah, Shula's Steakhouse is more high end - no TVs, dressier (Dockers & collared shirt at minimum), and basically steaks only - no burgers, etc. This sounds a lot more like a high end sports bar.
It's a bummer we couldn't score a full-line Shulas instead of some stripped down version. But then again a national chain realized the viability of downtown St. Louis and didn't go running to some place like West County Mall.
BTW: guess where Don Shula's last coaching game was and victory #347 was? Right here in St. Louis.

We don't have any, as far as I know. I guess you can sort of make a case for Shannon's, although I would consider that more of a restaurant than a sports bar. And I can't comment on the place in the old Adam's Mark, because I haven't been there.dweebe wrote:Wow, that's good news. We don't have enough of those downtown. It has nothing to do with (not) scoring a "full-line Shula's". It's not a stripped-down version. It is the concept they deemed most viable at this location.dweebe wrote:It's a bummer we couldn't score a full-line Shulas instead of some stripped down version.

The steak house scene is getting crowded downtown. Maybe that's why they went in this direction. The Count wrote:It has nothing to do with (not) scoring a "full-line Shula's". I'd argue the following could be called high-end sports bars that are downtown based upon their prices are decor:The Central Scrutinizer wrote:We don't have any, as far as I know. -Ozzies
-Over/Under
-Shannons
-isn't SkyBox still open?
-the sports bar at the Hyatt (they charge $6.50 for a 16oz glass of draft Bud Light)
True. The Central Scrutinizer wrote:The steak house scene is getting crowded downtown. Though I would have argued a regular Shula's could have been successful in the Lumiere Place complex.
Sleek is far superior to any regular Shula's. They have terrific food.
I don't get it. Downtown already has (in chronological order):
Al's
Mike Shannon's
Carmine's
SLeeK
Ruth's Chris
(and to some extent, F15teen)
In the past month, the two new announcements have been
Prime 1000
Shula's 347
This seems like an awful lot of high-end steak in a very small area.

I work at the Hyatt Downtown and the Ruth's Chris here is pretty sweet - its not run by us but leased out to a franchisee. Not sure how much more of a market there is for more steakhouses although ours targets a different mix of both hotel and local customers.
By the way, we charge $4.50 for a bud light draft at the Brewhouse, not $6.50, and much less for happy hour and Sundays (all day happy hour). Or you can buy a Brewhouse t-shirt and get happy hour pricing anytime you come in wearing the shirt.

I really applaud the idea, but that doesn't seem too classy. Maybe there's a polo shirt option?ladedade wrote:Or you can buy a Brewhouse t-shirt and get happy hour pricing anytime you come in wearing the shirt.

I wouldn't consider Ozzie's or O/U to be high end. Obviously nicer than your regular sports bar (Flannery's, Hooters, etc). Shannon's I've already addressed. The other two I can't comment on.dweebe wrote:I'd argue the following could be called high-end sports bars that are downtown based upon their prices are decor:

The place sure doesn't advertise itself as a sports bar. The commercial on the home page is all about martinis. And looking at the pictures of the different locations, there are very few tv's.

Good point. If not to show sports, one wonders what they do with the "stunning video system" and "High-end flat panel screened TVs"?Moorlander wrote:The place sure doesn't advertise itself as a sports bar. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
I'm sorry about the mistatement: were the prices cranked up last summer? Because I know for a fact I paid $26 for four of the above mentioned beers the week of the All-Star game.ladedade wrote:By the way, we charge $4.50 for a bud light draft at the Brewhouse, not $6.50, and much less for happy hour and Sundays (all day happy hour). ,,,I was at that game.
Not sure why you were charged that...we charge $4.50 for BL, $5.50 for craft/imports...HH and Sundays are $3.50 BL, $4.50 for the others.dweebe wrote:I'm sorry about the mistatement: were the prices cranked up last summer? I was also at that game. Christmas Eve if I remember correctly with a pretty decent ice/snow mix going on outside that made getting home a pretty good challenge.
It was nice to see a number of people stay around to give Coach Shula a standing applause as he walked off the field.

6.50 per beer is obviously special Uppity Doopity Dop pricing.
