There are a couple of restaurants/bars I can think of (maybe more) that occupy Kranzberg holdings in the area.

Sophie's Artist Lounge, Turn, maybe others?

This is fabulous news. SLU should be paying THEM for the benefit that groups like Kranzberg and other nearby developers provide the university.

Again?  I thought this had already been rejected once, if not twice, in the past.

This facade can not be torn down. I understand the rear of the building it fairly messed up, but it's a one story building. Can't imagine stabilization or even complete renovation would be more expensive than tearing it down and building something new.

Our Preservation Board meetings are hybrid, and you can watch and also participate by Zoom. The Zoom link will be available once the final agenda is posted here (which should be by the end of business on Friday):

I just came across this older article by Chris Naffziger about "the lost streets of the south side of Lafayette Square".

Interesting read, and some cool old pics:

What's left of St. Augustine church is coming down today.
https://fox2now.com/news/missouri/the-r ... -st-louis/

The Europeans that originally built north city and then abandoned their own history should be rolling in their graves with shame. These churches and schools all over the city should have lasted 1000 years. The whole situation is disgraceful.

Ugh. A lot more LRA demos coming.

KMOV - Renovations lift north St. Louis neighborhood
To stimulate redevelopment and reduce crime in north St. Louis, a major effort is underway to demolish vacant buildings that are the worst eyesores.

A collaborative effort involving the State of Missouri, St. Louis City, the St. Louis Regional Crime Commission and others will use $15 million in ARPA funds to demolish 1,000 unstable properties by the end of 2026. The city’s prioritizing vacant homes in north St. Louis.

Not “LRA demos” but “demos”. In fact , LRA barely owns 1000 buildings at this point, I believe. Mostly lots.

Preview of new LRA website from SLDC July 18 meeting materials. Says LRA has 2,000 buildings, and they are demolishing 50% of them.

Y'know, if they're doing this anyway could they at least demolish these in a careful manner in an attempt to salvage bricks and other reusable components? Then make the materials available for cheap (even free!) to local developers/construction companies who want to thoughtful renovations/preservations of historic properties elsewhere in the city.

This is my only major complaint I have about Jones administration bc I like a lot of stuff happening in the city. Someone has gotta get LRA to do something different. Why are we tearing down this many buildings in mass? I can understand doing some demos of unsalvageable buildings on mostly full blocks but their approach North City is going to be a prairie. We are just tearing things down without a plan. Didn’t we learn before?

On top of them having crazy anti-density lot size minimums and selling lots to neighbors as side yards. Letting our bricks go to patios in Dallas.

LRA is really frustrating to me.

^ What would be your realistic hope here?  What should LRA do?  Streetview shows that many of these appear to be "unsalvageable" and in some cases those Streetview images are 5+ years old.
