IMO - the single tracking shouldn't be an issue. If this line is extended it will very likely extend down Delmar and not Lindell.
I think the current rubber tired trolley for Forest Park is just fine. The lacking part is knowing about it, like flyers at local hotels for visitors, and getting better frequencies during peak usage.
As a lot of people noted, their is a lot of transit issues that the area can support and feel that Forest Park itself is the last place that we need to look. Especially if Forest Park Forever is funding the current trolley at no expense to taxpayers.

??? As planned right now, there will be single tracking on both Delmar and DeBaliviere. And I agree that Lindell would be a terrible route for a streetcar.Alex Ihnen wrote:IMO - the single tracking shouldn't be an issue. ^ Right - but the cars can more easily navigate (wait) a single track on part of Delmar. If streetcars had to navigate a very long single track section - Delmar and Debaliviere - it would be much more difficult.

When did all these buildings behind the trolley loop get torn down? The building in the lower right is still there (Ciceros, etc) but 25 or so buildings behind it were flattened... I assume for the surface parking lot that currently sits there.

Great Rivers Greenway just releasted an update on the St. Vincent Greenway and there isn't really any mention of the trolley on Debaliviere, just a road diet and a grassy median for bikes. ArtWorks is being commissioned for some sort of public installation in the Ruth Porter Mall. I'd love to see updated renderings of the Debaliviere-Delmar intersection if anybody has them.

Maybe one day we'll get a parking garage erected and some additional residential. I think the area would benefit from some new construction.
I'd love to see something go up at Kingsland & Enright behind Ciceros, with a garage behind the Qdoba and Starbucks. I'd imagine some retail facing westward towards the block you've re-created there as well as eastward toward Fitz's.Moorlander wrote:Maybe one day we'll get a parking garage erected and some additional residential. A 4 story garage isn't going to look goofy from Delmar at that point, since it's blocked by the apartment building that houses Starbucks on the ground floor. That might free up enough parking that you could also put something on the lot behind FItz's too.
The funny thing is the Loop Trolley designers were proposing numerous scenarios as to how to turn the thing around on the west end, with the newest idea they're pitching being a roundabout at Trinity. The alternative they didn't suggest was to just put the trolley turnaround back the way it was 50+ years ago, and maybe that might have jump-started some redevelopment where that lot is.

Actually the article says the trolley will share the former northbound lanes with the greenway.DaronDierkes wrote:Great Rivers Greenway just releasted an update on the St. Vincent Greenway and there isn't really any mention of the trolley on Debaliviere, just a road diet and a grassy median for bikes. or at least that's how I interpreted it.
where a “road diet” will eliminate the current northbound lanes and convert them to greenway and bike trail. These blocks also would share the right-of-way with a proposed Loop Trolley Company streetcar that would travel through the Loop.

^^ I'm assuming they thought of it and dismissed it for some reason...good time to reintroduce it regardless!
Greenway on the northbound lanes would be correct. I've got a blog post about DeBaliviere that I've been trying to actually write for the last few days. Perhaps tonight?lukethedrifter wrote:Actually the article says the trolley will share the former northbound lanes with the greenway.DaronDierkes wrote:Great Rivers Greenway just releasted an update on the St. Vincent Greenway and there isn't really any mention of the trolley on Debaliviere, just a road diet and a grassy median for bikes. The western turn around being on Enright, the same loop it originally ran rather than a roundabout or a turnout or other options.lukethedrifter wrote:what are you referring to?Alex Ihnen wrote:^^ I'm assuming they thought of it and dismissed it for some reason...good time to reintroduce it regardless!

That's twice this week I've been caught with poor reading skills. I meant that it didn't have much mention of the trolley. I skim too much and read too little I guess.lukethedrifter wrote:Actually the article says the trolley will share the former northbound lanes with the greenway.DaronDierkes wrote:Great Rivers Greenway just releasted an update on the St. Vincent Greenway and there isn't really any mention of the trolley on Debaliviere, just a road diet and a grassy median for bikes. I've got a post about the future of DeBaliviere up on my blog. I did find a partial set of preliminary greenway plans on the Great Rivers Greenway website from April showing the layout of DeBaliviere north of the MetroLink station with trolley track included.Mill204 wrote:Greenway on the northbound lanes would be correct. Where does everyone wait for the northbound Hampton bus near FP station? The same place they do now? It often takes a while to load everyone up which might block the greenway path, the trolley right of way, and without a pullout for the bus, the one northbound lane of traffic.

I'm looking at two possible entrances to Porter Park and they both seem pretty lame. Both drawings indicate some sort of path across the road, but these recent drawings show no crosswalks at all.
I assume there would be three crosswalks, a trolley rail, and somesort of greenway path, but those aren't indicated well. Anybody know specifics?

We also got a write up in The Transport Politic http://www.thetransportpolitic.com/2010 ... streetcar/
This could have been a cool possibility. I don't know where the Loop Trolley progress stands, but it would have been great to extend that down to Kingshighway and connect to a streetcar running down Lindell/Olive to downtown. Hopefully it can still work out. I think its a great idea.

They are extremely fortunate to have received the money they did to build this part.
