If the daily homicide report is correct, homicides dropped by 50% (10 to 5) in February. Let's hope that keeps up!
Looks like it was 6 in February from the official numbers. Sadly, it looks like March is on track to be a lot more violent with the nicer weather.

Not sure I'm too worried. As of 3/7, March has 1 homicide. March 2018 had 12.

Noteworthy, its pretty rare for KC to surpass STL in homicides this far into a year. Usually STL has pulled ahead and will stay ahead for the remaining part of the year. It has been an unfortunate March in KC, leading to 30 homicides (7%+ increase over last year, 67% increase over 2015/2016) as of last night. STL is at 27 homicides (25% decrease over last year).

^ Yeah, it's been pretty bad over here this year. I think many would be surprised how closely these two cities resemble each other when it comes to crime. Lots of KC people I know love to toss St. Louis crime stats in my face, but never really seem to have the balls to look in the mirror.

With just about 30 hours to go, STL is on track for a 20% drop in homicides through the first 3 months of the year (32 vs. 40).

I was a little bored at work today so I had another gander at this. KC is somehow still leading STL 36-32 in homicides this year. Kind of odd being that we're already into April.

I would guess the brutal cold has had an impact on St. Louis' total so far but still good to see nonetheless.

Seems like April was unfortunately a relatively active month with 10 homicides, bringing the total for STL to 42 homicides.  The good news is that this is still a decrease of 10 or almost 20% from this time last year.  Perhaps worth noting is that STL still remains behind KC's total of 45, which is 3 up from 2018.

It was a quiet month until the last three days. 4 of those 10 came from two double homicides this past week.

^ Yeah, it reallllly picked up the last couple days it seems like.  Still can't believe KC is leading STL in homicides 5 months into the year.

Kansas City's violence has been trending up for the last three or four years.

Most people over here cover their ears and shut their eyes about it.

A cop friend of mine said that 17 people were shot in St. Louis so far this weekend with Saturday being the most violent. That seems like an awful lot but I don’t think they are all going to translate to Homicides. Either way, Jesus that’s a lot.

^ Some background.  16 were shot in 10 separate incidents with 2 deaths, however, 3 of those incidents were accidental as 3 men mishandled guns and shot themselves.

Still a rough weekend.

Seems like whatever helped us in the first 1/4 of the year has worn off. Difference between last year is diminishing quickly. Summer. Summer. Summer.

And with this, I think we're fully caught up.

We're still actually 5 short from 2018 and 4 short from 2017.

Just sent the mayor and my alderwoman an email about these shootings. The homicide rate here is bad enough. Adding a three year old to that list of victims is just outrageous. I don’t know what the answer is; I hope this new prevention program starts to address this. Rant over.
