Are you sure the police car and the uniformed officer are there campaigning? Perhaps the car is there for a legitimate reason, and the two guys with signs just happened to stand in front of it?

I'm quite sure that's what the police will say.

In business, we have a saying: Never create a conflict of interest, and never even create the appearance of one.

A uniformed police officer sitting in a marked police car next to TWO police union officials holding up separate campaign signs -- not just there to work, but actually holding up their signs -- is very clearly giving AT LEAST the appearance of a conflict of interest.

Absolutely disgusting.

^ i'm pretty sure the scumbag on the right in that photo is Jeff Roorda, the business manager for the union that represents the STLPD:

https://www.riverfronttimes.com/newsblo ... -executive

that is definitely not happenstance.

by the way, police cars were ALL OVER S. Grand this morning. just parked in various places. amazing that the only time they make themselves visible is when they want a raise.

Honest question,

I am seeing an infographic against prop P showing what the sales tax will be at certain stores in the city if it passes. Is is a percent increase or a half cent increase? And in other words, how much is it really going up? If this post says Lowes on Loughborough is %10.679, what is it if it does not pass?

Yeah for the love of god these goobers need to gtfo with this facebook quality posts. The picture was taken form this article on stltoday

http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/crim ... e-featured

And if they would have posted all the pictures and their captions you would see why the car is there. For the lazy her is the caption as to why the cop is there...

"Officer Matthew Shaw waits for election judges to return to his car as a voter passes by near a polling place at Gethsemane Lutheran Church at 3600 Hampton Avenue on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017. Photo by Christine Byers"

Can we get back to posting about crime not made up BS...and i voted no on prop p.

Half cent. I believe with the recently implemented 1/2 cent sales tax increase the city's base rate is something like 9.2%... if we pass this one too it would be 9.7% iirc. And then you add in the various site specific sales taxes and some places might approach 13%. I believe in the Lowe's case the current rate would be 10.179% if it would be 10.679 with the 1/2 cent increase.

It was always going to pass considering the amount of city employees who live here. When a large group has an opportunity to vote themselves more money, they will always take it.

Slowly becoming a supporter of Rex Sinquefeld. The taxes in the city need to stop. NOW.

King Rex spent six figures supporting Prop P so I'm not sure I follow.

Source? I find it hard to believe Rex supported a tax increase.

Certainly he supported the County one:
Two major business groups — Civic Progress and the Regional Business Council — provided $150,000 and $100,000, respectively. And $200,000 came from retired investor Rex Sinquefield, a prolific donor to various causes he favors. Overall, the committee reported raising $710,000. An opposition group said it raised $140.

^ That comment above about low turnout in North is spot on.... most wards around 12-15% with only 20% reached in the 2nd, where there was a special aldermanic race. Meanwhile it was as high as 37% in the 16th Ward (SW City)

^Well if it passed in all but 4 wards I don’t see yes on P creating a more divided city as you claimed on Twitter. Get your ass out and vote or STFU I say.

^ I had no idea how things would turn out but my concern was if it passed only b/c of heavy turnout in SW City wards while getting rejected most everywhere else, then we'd have a more divided city this morning. .I think that was a reasonable concern but it carried more wards than I and a lot of others thought; Enjoy the chill!

I think the turnout numbers are evidence of the divide. The divide is basically between the enfranchised vs the disenfranchised. The disenfranchised have not been voting for years because they've got more immediate needs such as cannot get off work, find childcare, food instability and/or a wide-array of other frequent stresses, which in themselves, compounded over time lead to additional stress (hopelessness, depression) to find time or even care to vote in a system that is arguably rigged against them all because of some combination of the social-racial-economic conditions they've found themselves born into.

Just my two cents.

Our police departments are too old-school to do stuff like Persistence Surveillance... I think it'd be a great tool though...
