^ what the hell is going on recently? i wonder if the uptick is related to the Ferguson ordeal attracting people looking to exploit the situation and/or Amendment 5 making it basically impossible to prosecute unlawful gun possession. i mean, we have from time-to-time seen 5-7 people shot in a day but i can't recall so many such days in succession in the recent past.
Ferguson police officer shot. No details yet:

It sounds like that cop was trying to protect a business from a break-in. If that's the case, he was doing his job.
I understand that protesters feel outraged at injustice, but the protesting is not helping Ferguson or St. Louis at all.

lawful protesters aren't responsible for the actions of criminals. the brown shooting has been handled very unprofessionally to say the least, and i'm not convinced there isn't a cover-up going on. they have every right to continue protesting—and as ineffective as it may be, NOT protesting is even less effective.stlcardsblues1989 wrote:It sounds like that cop was trying to protect a business from a break-in. ^agreed I hope they continue to protest, I hope they get a victory, an indictment, reform, something. Too many people are content with the status quo. These protestors aren't, they are committed.
Imagine if we had that energy pushing for more mass transit, for a 21st century city, imagine if we emboldened them to change this region. The "millenials" St. Louis is looking for are already here, we just don't bother to include them.

This guy fought back.... Wish he would have gotten them.
Kind of messed up. If you know this block, it is extremely quiet and off the major road, Watson. Odd place to rob someone. Guess it was a crime of opportunity.
Dotson needs to beef up patrols in District 2. Seems to be targeted a lot lately. Also heard of an armed robbery at the Hampton Target at 8:30 AM.

Agreed. He and the mayor need to wake up as well. There has been no shortage of crime across the city lately. I am tired of hearing this "overall crime is down" crap when there are so many disturbing trends over the last few months. Homicides and gun-related crimes are up sharply compared to last year, yet the mayor pays more attention to an article that blasts the Cardinals. Seems like Slay and Dotson would rather paint a happy picture on traditional and social media than to actually deal with the problems that threaten the quality of life for those who live in, work in, and visit St. Louis. It's very frustrating.DogtownBnR wrote:Dotson needs to beef up patrols in District 2. Seems to be targeted a lot lately. Also heard of an armed robbery at the Hampton Target at 8:30 AM.

Sitting in my office Downtown and heard 4 distinct gunshot from not far away. (I have heard shots from a distance a home, but never so distinctly and not at work).
Looked at Kiener Plaza and didn't see people running, but then close to the Old Courthouse I saw a bunch of people running inside buildings. Now I see there is a person lying on the sidewalk in front of the Drury Plaza hotel, with a few people around trying to help. Lots of cops now.

^ST. LOUIS • At least one person appears to be dead after a shooting at Fourth and Market Streets downtown at about 2:35 p.m. One or two others were believed to be wounded.
Police have not confirmed the death, but a body can be seen in a red Dodge SUV stopped in the traffic lanes of northbound Broadway at Market.
The scene is near the southeast corner of the Old Courthouse, about three blocks west of the Gateway Arch.

Just in time for us to host our first playoff game of the season.roger wyoming II wrote:^ST. LOUIS • At least one person appears to be dead after a shooting at Fourth and Market Streets downtown at about 2:35 p.m. One or two others were believed to be wounded.

there are times I feel like this city is rapidly dying....like right now

Although I am concerned about the possibility of protests and the ramifications that they may have on our city's image, this is far more troubling and embarrassing. We're talking about a shooting in broad daylight on an already busy corner that's even busier with a Cardinals playoff game just hours away? There are three adjacent hotels that feature rooms with a view of this corner. Awesome.Greatest St. Louis wrote:Just in time for us to host our first playoff game of the season.roger wyoming II wrote:^ST. I hate to sing in one-note like Ed Golterman, the Great Defender of the Kiel Opera House legacy, but I expect that we'll hear nothing but crickets from Mayor Slay or Chief Dotson on this incident.

No childish gif required for this one. . .i just want to scream as loud as i can. So frustrating

I'd really like to retract my knee-jerk post, but it's out there so whatever.
This is a serious tragedy.
I'm not just talking about the shootings, although of course it is a damn shame that people's lives were cut short so senselessly, and I can't begin to feel the pain of the loved ones of whoever died today in this shooting.
I'm talking about how much worse this problem is here than almost anywhere else in the states, and how it is born of an abysmal gap in access to opportunity and prosperity, thanks to capitalism mixed with racism (both institutional and overt).
It's incredibly nauseating, and I can't imagine what it will take to force this city to begin looking at things differently to address the root causes.
The protesters we've been seeing for two months now couldn't possibly go far enough or be drastic enough to bring attention to these issues.

Wow. Just sad and horrible.
Homicides are out of control and have been all this year. It's way past time for Slay/Dotson to admit that. A double murder in the heart of Downtown in the middle of the day--it boggles the mind. What a past couple months for STL...
Per this tweet it appears to be drug related:
Also, get ready for the "Where are the protests?" comments...

Yep. So sick of this sh*t I'm not even sure where to begin. Same old excuses for these idiots, same old, let's find a solution..blah blah. Just don't shoot each other. Pretty simple.
Oh, and let's not blame Dotson or the police, can we focus on the criminals this time?
