Anyone know when the park area along Boyle is going to get underway?
I thought I read somewhere it was starting either this month or next month.framer wrote:Anyone know when the park area along Boyle is going to get underway?

Construction is scheduled to begin this month. Budget will be $15 million+. I haven't seen permit activity yet, though public postings can see delays.
This area is really exciting. Things seem to be happening now. Everything else seems to be happening "in the fall" or later. Northisde? In the fall. City Walk? In the fall. Chemical/Arcade Wright? By the end of the year. Loop trolley? Not for a while. BPV? In a few years.
But here, you have the BJC building nearly complete, ground broken on the Shriners Hospital and another BJC building on Taylor, 4240 well underway, Aventura complete across the freeway, etc. Plans are actually being put into action. I wish they would just get started on Ikea already...

I keep thinking, hoping, dreaming IKEA is sitting on the announcement waiting for SLU/Wash U students to get back. SLU orientation is just eleven days away.
I keep thinking, hoping, dreaming, that Metro will announce initial engineering for a Boyle/Spring Station. It makes so much sense at this point, and will only help accelerate what's already happening.
Have plans and renderings been released? For $15 million, it seems that this will be much more than a couple of grassy knolls.Presbyterian wrote:Construction is scheduled to begin this month. Budget will be $15 million+. I haven't seen permit activity yet, though public postings can see delays.

^I'm not sure whether these are the final plans or just schematics. I'll see what I can find out.
I have been told that this project will be amazing.

I believe they hired a new landscape architect (a good one) after those renderings were done. We may have more soon.

It sounds like the architects have finished the design work and a contractor has been hired. These renderings give the general flavor but are not the actual design. Construction should begin in the coming months.
A little context: City Garden is 2.9 acres and cost $25-30 million (which includes the restaurant, but not the art). This park will be about 2 acres and is estimated at $15 million.

I haven't seen the final design but have been assured it'll be nice. They've involved a respected placemaking expert and are using the same designers that have been behind some of the city's better outdoor spaces.

And the last plan I saw included two retail buildings within the park/civic livingroom. Hopefully we'll see more detail soon.
Any idea how they'll address the Metrolink tracks running through the site?

The northeast corner of Clayton & Boyle will be a 200,000 sq.ft. administrative building shared by Barnes-Jewish and Children's Hospitals.

^ That doesn't seem quite right.... that is where the new admin building is and I don't think there is room for another at that corner. I suspect either they got the wrong corner or the reference is actually to the building already under construction.
Anyone able to confirm that this is actually a reference to the existing building nearing completion? I ask because they are now digging pretty deep at the remaining sliver at the corner, but while it may be technically possible to put up some kind of narrow tower I suspect that this is related to the greenway facility.gone corporate wrote:The northeast corner of Clayton & Boyle will be a 200,000 sq.ft. administrative building shared by Barnes-Jewish and Children's Hospitals.

I don't have absolute confirmation, but I'm pretty sure that's a reference to the building now nearing completion. That building is 220,000 s.f. and will be used for BJC administration.

This building is much as what we thought it would be before, administrative offices for the hospitals. It looks to likely be taking the admin offices now within Children's and BJC, likely offices that'll need to be relocated in the major build-out at the NW side of the campus. I don't think the article's referring to a whole new building from the one being finished up at the corner currently.
I also find it interesting that, according to their plans, they're building the site up and then seeking bond financing for it.

Man, that cost figure keeps on rising. At first, I thought it was like $400 million. Then I saw $600 million. Now it's a billion.
I wish I had the money to invest in healthcare stocks 15 years ago.

The lights are on in the new admin building @ Cortex. Seems like the greenway is under way. Looking pretty sharp!
