RBB, I usually don't post my portrait on forums, but for you I'll make an exception:

The Count wrote:Right now, there is plenty of office space available in downtown. Let's fill this up. In the process we would finally get rid of GO, finish the Mall concept and create the need for a nice tower at the Western end. (Or anywhere else, for that matter. Plenty of parking lots available.)

Then replace the parking garages with 8-10 story residential/office with retail on the ground floor.

Mission accomplished.

Perhaps if we all wish hard enough, it will happen tomorrow!

Wouldn't Gateway One, the Civil Courts building AND The Old Courthouse need to be moved/demolished to truly make this a continuous mall? Taking down Gateway One wouldn't fix the problem IMO.

And perhaps if we all wish hard enough, a renovated Kiel would happen as well!

Oh, wait, it did.

Checked out the park tonight as they have many of the lights now functioning. Wow! The pathways are lit, the rock walls are lit, the sculptures are lit. It really looks amazing and with the arch in the background it really sets it off. It really gives St. Louis a new and welcome flavor and think the majority of the public will be highly impressed. It's the kind of park that makes you want to enter and explore.

Too bad you can't see the Arch from the Northern half of the park. 8)

But I agree Irock, the park looks great!

Hey, what's blocking my view of the Arch, the Old Courthouse AND the Wainwright?

There is something about seeing the giant rabbits and the Arch in the same picture that makes me smile, but I can't put my finger on it.

Gateway One isn't going anywhere, but can we ask someone to do something more with the South half of that block to integrate it into the mall? First of all, get rid of the big cube with corporate names on it on the SouthEast corner of the Gateway One property. Its kind of says, "This park is for Gateway One -- keep out." It would be better to turn the lower mall level of Gateway One into a restaurant, museum, gallery or Bier Garten that opens out into the mall to liven up the South half of the property in the Summer. Not something all enclosed the way Dierdorf and Harts was.

Wow CS, it took you just 17 minutes to come up with the right answer.

You won a free beer at a watering hole of your choice!

Wrong. No beer for you.

The park looks great! I expect it to become a popular gathering place for camera-toting tourists as well as the lunchtime office crowd. I can't wait to see the fountains up and running.

The Gateway Foundation doesn't get a lot of recognition (perhaps they like it that way), but they've spread quite a lot of top-notch artwork around our fair city. Kudos.

According to a story by Joe Bonwich in this morning's Post-Dispatch, the new restaurant at the Citygarden will be called The Terrace View. They hope to open in early July.

Sorry, I don't have a link to the story. I'm getting this information right out of today's newspaper (page A2).

In honor of the white rabbits, I think these guys - the pride of Webster Groves and Mizzou - should be brought in for a concert:

I'd like to see renderings of the new restaurant. Joe's article described it as a Miesian glass box with indoor and outdoor seating. It'll be run by the Liluma guys.

We could have our very own "Barcelona Pavilion".

^The new restaurant is very well designed, but it's certainly not of the caliber of the Barcelona Pavilion. However, nothing could hope to live up the minimalist masterpiece Mies created, so that's certainly not a knock on this restaurant (does it have a name yet?).

That being said, with great food, it could become an icon of its own and a popular place in downtown. It should add a significant amount of vibrancy to the Gateway Mall and I really look forward to going there.

Do we have an opening date for either the Sculpture Park, or the restaurant? Seems like they are both very close to nearing completion...I'm assuming both will be done by the All-Star Game.

It would be cool to have something like (St. Louisan) Danny Meyer's Shake Shack in Madison Square Park:

^ I think it's going to be much cooler than that. Something similar would be great in a couple places around Forest Park!

This did get me thinking though - I wish the Danforth Foundation or other entity would subsidize architectural fees for architects with STL connections (WU, born here, etc.) to design things like this. I know, we shouldn't be so local as to only have STL architects, but I actually think it would highlight to talent and progressive work of people with ties here. The problem is that they have to go elsewhere to get unique commissions.

If Ted Drewes were to open a Forest Park location, somewhere close to the Zoo/Art Museum, he could literally print money. Same for CWE or Downtown. I suspect after he goes, whoever follows will start opening additional locations.

By the way, anyone know the sculpture/artist name of the piece that was installed in Forest Park near the Grand Basis for a few months and will not be downtown. I guess it's best described as huge rusty huge dinosaur sized ribs, kind of like coils, almost . . .
