^ Love this part from the story:

Now, Kroenke may have to pay for most or all of the settlement.

Along the lines of St. Louis success it is a very different story for Oakland in their suit against Raiders as a lower court ruling in favor Raiders over Oakland was upheld by appeals court.   First heard of it on KQED/NPR this morning on drive into work.   From what was reported it sounded like a much weaker case on how they went about it and the fact that St. Louis did some spend some coin for a legit stadium.    The KQED/NPR news report noted St Louis Rams settlement so that have stung for a few Oakland folks out here in the Bay area

Did anyone else expect more national new coverage of the settlement? I have seen a little, but less than I thought there would be, given the money amount, NFL history, etc.

I’ve seen a couple articles in the New York Times, the Washington Post and several other national outlets like NBC and ESPN. Obviously lots of other national sports outlets like the Athletic, SI, etc.

The San Diego Paper reran this LA Times article from Sam Framer recently:

They weren’t really paying attention before…so I didn’t really expect a sudden rush of coverage after it settled.

That opening salvo is something else.  Almost as much as the concussion settlement in it's entirety?  I'm not sure if I feel good for us or bad for every NFL alumnus.

Why do I think Kroenke will raise the rent on his near-monopoly of strip malls with Walmarts in the St Louis region to recoup his $790M. He just seems like a mean last laugh kinda guy.

Anyone heard any rumblings out there on local parties agreeing on split/or how it will be shared? I think someone posted that an announcement was going to be made in near future

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!

New York Post: NFL explores Super Bowl move from Los Angeles to Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium
WFAA says the City of Arlington “proactively” contacted the NFL and offered AT&T Stadium — which last hosted the Super Bowl in early 2011, when the Packers defeated the Steelers — as a destination if Los Angeles became un-feasible. Last year’s Rose Bowl moved from Pasadena to AT&T Stadium.
Hey farknuts, still such a big sucker for Jerry Jones? Sucks to be you, StanK.

Imagine if STL City Hall reached out to the NFL and position the Dome as an alternative venue, like Arlington did. After all, if the League wanted to have the Super Bowl in the Rams' stadium, then that can still happen to some degree.

It really wouldn't shock me if COVID wreaks havoc on the NFL playoffs, not just the Super Bowl.

I hope they get billions.

The NFL needs a good thrashing.

^ I don't know if they get a thrashing but wonder if lawsuit gives Chargers a thought about making a run at building a new stadium in San Diego and therefore making the lawsuit moot.   On the other hand, at this point with all costs associated with building a new stadium,  lack of public dollars, and so on in Cali you wonder if Chargers are better off to make a deal & go shopping for subsidies on a new long term home whether it be Austin TX or International destination, London or heck Mexico City (Hispanic fan base of Southwest) or family simply shops for a buyout from a gazillionaire or equity firm.  Not sure how long they are committed to Stan K's LA stadium but NFL still top pro franchise with values if not mistaken are trending up not down.

PostJan 28, 2022#4964

So does this mean anything,? doesn't mean anything? or simply the fact that the RSA board was short so time to act because lo and behold you have money & need a quorum.   Maybe way to cynical but smell the lawsuit coming after the lawsuit

https://www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/new ... 4#cxrecs_s

Missouri Gov. Mike Parson said Friday he's nominating three people for the board that owns the Dome at America's Center and is set to receive Rams settlement money.

Did the state even help with the lawsuit?

My recollection was that they had nothing to do with it.

So, that Uncle Rico wannabe is going to win the Super Bowl in his own gazillion dollar stadium, isn't he?

Go Bengals.

Apparently, the City of San Diego is named as a defendant in the lawsuit - the suit is being filed on behalf of a single San Diego taxpayer, Ruth Henricks. The city doesn't seem to want anything to do with the lawsuit. I'm still kind of confused about why San Diego itself is a named defendant in the suit, but they are...

It was definitely not a pleasant football day. Happy for Cincinnati. They played well, even if Kansas City struggled. Go Bengals!

It doesn't matter or not if the state had anything to do with the lawsuit or not.   However, I believe Regional Sport Authority, RSA, is the entity who owns the stadium for which the Gov appointed three new board members and the entity that also shares in the spoils.
From what I understand from Post Dispatch reporting is the settlement funds are already transferred and sitting in an escrow account.    I think their is more going on as if it was simply a matter of splitting the funds equally three ways between the City, County and RSA it could have easily been done by now.

The state isn’t getting anything, while the RSA was set up under state law the agency has 11 board members of which 6 are appointed by the mayor and STL county executive (3 each). Basically the city and county could shaft the RSA on the money splitting but I assume it will leave it with some monies for Dome maintenance

^ I understand the part about state not getting any of the funds but if I got the math right the state has five appointed RSA members, County has 3 and City has 3.   So state has influence, Correct?  Influence that could sway towards what county might want as I doubt that state appointed members are in step with City desires to do with the funding..

So sticking by my prediction that West County pursuing a replacement for Dome and somehow Rams Settlement funds is involved is not out of the realm of possibility.  Yes, I understand that the funds are not enough to build a NFL 55,000 seat class stadium but it would significant amount to secure a site, build some infrastructure as well as some type of sport facility.  Sport facilities for north county that I believe is the hang up with county signing off on convention expansion

The city and county (6 total votes) are united at the RSA board vs the state of MO 5 votes

But the rsa board doesn’t decide how the money would be spent. It’s just 1 of 3 deciders.

It’s the city, the county and the RSA board (of which the city and county have 6 of the 11 votes) idk how they’ll decide the split of money but theoretically city and county could vote to shut out RSA out of the money. Hell you can have a 3-0 vote to shut out the RSA since the city and county have 6 of the 11 rsa votes

I believe someone stated that some news should be forthcoming on the settlement but can't find post.   I don't believe anything has been reported or confirmed as of yet in the respective news outlets.
