Fair enough. A very close person to me is gay and LOVES chik fil a. How would we categorize this situation.

I couldn't agree more, well, except for your aversion to popcorn. What gives?

why don't you ask him/her and tell us. i'd be interested to hear the reasoning. my guess would be that he/she doesn't feel effected by their campaign against marriage equality, adoption rights, workplace equality, etc.

I'm gay and I love Chick-fil-A. The way I see it is that (1) they've stopped actively donating to anti-gay organizations, and (2) even though Cathy's views are not in line with mine, that's a viewpoint that is in dramatic decline and his side is losing power by the minute. I'm not going to let his personal views interfere with my enjoying their damn delicious food.

the KKK are still fighting a (mostly) lost battle. is it therefore cool to go eat at the Chic-KKK-en Coop since, you know, black people can vote now and drink from the same water fountains? intention matters (at least to some). and i don't understand the "they" reference. the Cathy family, specifically, gave millions of dollars to organizations like Eagle Forum, Focus on the Family, Family Research Council, and Exodus International which work (to this day) against equal rights. and they only stopped (as far as the public knows) because of the bad press. you're free to eat wherever you like, but let's call a spade a spade. the reality is that most people just don't care that much about stuff that doesn't directly effect them.

1) Is there actually a place called Chic-KKK-en Coop?
2) The "they" I'm referencing are the owners of CFA, not CFA the corporation.

I'm still not eating there, just throwing it out there as a piece of the conversation. I would think for the many that took a stand, this might be a game changer for some.

Ha I'm gay as well and i look at it as everyone has a right to their own opinion whether i like it or not. I can either accept or not and i see myself as a fairly easy going open minded person to where it will take a lot for me to get highly offended. Us gays and people in general have come a long ways besides who in their right mind going to pass up on some of the countries best chicken there is?

1) it was just a hypothetical for the sake of argument—i tried to get creative. :) but i think the comparison is apt. would (royal) you give your money to a KKK-affiliated business? what if they just made the best damn chicken you'd ever tasted? to varying degrees, people are just unwilling to give up conveniences/pleasures unless the negative byproducts of those conveniences/pleasures effect them personally.

2) okay, thanks. it's difficult for me to separate the owners from the corporation considering that the Cathys derive their wealth from the corporation—wealth that they used to fund hate groups (per the Southern Poverty Law Center). i'm sure that given a more low-profile opportunity to fund those groups they'd do it again (if they're not already).

anyway, i'm not losing sleep over it. just stating my position. i can't in good conscience eat there, and i don't feel like i'm missing out on anything because of it.

I agree with urban. It's tasty chicken, but not worth supporting. The last thing I should be eating anyway.

KMOX reports that the now closed Macaroni Grill sites in Brentwood and South County will be razed and rebuilt as Chick-fil-A restaurants.

The St. Peters location has also closed and will become a Chick-Fil-A.

They use to have a downtown location in the STL Centre (hate saying that place) "Taste of St. Louis" foodcourt. They would do GREAT downtown STL again!

A Chick-Fil-A would do very well downtown, especially during the lunch rush. The company policy of being closed on Sundays would also work out well since one could fire a cannon down many streets in the CBD and not hit a soul on a Sunday.

I see the Brentwood location is ready to go, but what about the South County Center outlot location? Is it still in the works, or was it simply delayed? The empty Macaroni Grill still stands on that site.

There is no mention of the Soco location on their website of future openings. The only MO location under future openings is the Columbia location near the Mizzou campus.

You know who loves the Brentwood Chick Fil A? Wash U (and maybe SLU) students.

As the minivan driving father of two young children I am required by dad law to take my children to Chick Fil A once every 10 days or so: so I'm there a lot. While they're in the play area I get plenty of time to look around and I've noticed lots of college age kids at the Brentwood one. Tons more than any other Chick location.

Then I further watched them coming and going across the parking lot; they're not driving, they're taking Metrolink. My only guess is Wash U. students taking advantage of their passes.

I've mentioned in other threads about how the SLU shuttle bus will stop at the Brentwood Target, let off like 10 to 20 students and take on 10 to 20 students loaded up with stuff.

Id imagine a lot of that slows down with Ikea next door now.

I am very disappointed to hear this. This location has been a music/video store forever, going back to Peaches and maybe beyond. The old Fazoli's site would have been better. I guess FYE is not doing well enough. I hope they move into a different location, versus closing.
Not to mention, Raising Cane's just opened up down the street. This will hurt their business, maybe even close it eventually. This is a typical Walgreens-CVS type deal. Could the City have pushed for the Chick-Fil-A to be in a different location? Maybe FYE got a deal they couldn't pass up. Who knows, very disappointing, loved FYE. At least we still have the Record Exchange. I guess this is good for them.
