Maybe, maybe.....
Cherokee Street Soon to Feature a Shipping Container Cafe (2622 Cherokee)

A long-rumored shipping container cafe may soon be constructed at 2622 Cherokee Street (at Texas Avenue) by owner and Cherokee Street investor Jason Deem. A $150,000 building permit application is now on file with the City. That permit has not yet been issued.

^ I like it.... a few container projects around town will be nice to have. It will be on the same block as ^^ btw, which in turn looks like a great (partial) replacement for the Rent-A-Center that was there.

So, today's Flashback Fruday on the NextSTL Blog was this:

This photo was taken between Iowa and Ohio on Cherokee. What caught my eye was the blade sign on the south side of the street (right side of the photo) for bowling. This got me wondering: Is it possible there was or even is a bowling alley on the upstairs of this building?

Those high windows and high roof (which goes even higher than the front of the building) must create a large, unique space up there. If anyone has any information I'd love to hear it.

Anyone have a sense of how home sales and prices are doing in the blocks surrounding Cherokee? Are we seeing the stellar commercial resurgence translating into residential gains?

Depends. I've bought homes on Nebraska and California south of Cherokee by a block for $11-14k. I looked at a 4plex north of Cherokee by a block that was for sale for $35k but needed intense rehab. Most buyers in that area are buy and hold section 8 investors.

What type of investor are you? Buy and hold as well? Are there much owner occupied properties in the area?

Clearly, these guys know how to have fun with names:

Buy and hold, fix and flip, b2b sales. I buy anywhere from the Mississippi out to warren, Lincoln and Jefferson counties.

I'm starting two rehabs in TGS over the next two months plus a smattering of other projects from Black Jack to Arnold.

I left the corporate grind to do this and I can tell you the one thing I didn't see coming: the unintended, uninterrupted view of the cross-slice of the St Louis socio-economic charade. That is to say no matter what you make, what color you are, who you worship and where you lay your head every night in the big STL, you're a great person that shares the aspirations, wants, needs, fears, etc. of everyone else in this city. I love this place!!!!!

Cherokee is a long way off (3-5) years. Fox Park is closer to popping off.

They should call the bar Wolfpussy.

beertrenuership is rebuilding our Saint Louis economy!

I was thinking of putting that rehab on the City Projects list b/c of its prominent location -- I believe it is taking up part of the old Rent-a-Center so this will be a big upgrade. But I'm trying to cut back on single storefront rehabs otherwise it gets so large.

Someone please explain to me why anyone would think that bringing in an extra couple of thousand people who are in a knick-knack-buying mood into the vicinity of your knick-knack shop could possibly be a bad thing. Luckily it sounds like it's only a small handful of old kooks.
