Things should be heading in the other direction.

Daily Herald - Bill nixing senior road test clears committee. What’s next?
After months in limbo, a proposal ending road tests for Illinois seniors is gaining steam, thanks in part to pressure from older voters.

In an 8-1 decision last week, Illinois House Transportation: Vehicles and Safety Committee members
approved legislation that would stop requiring people age 79 and up to take driving tests when renewing their licenses.

“What we are trying to address is the discriminatory practice of requiring behind-the-wheel tests for seniors to renew their license,”

James Bond would approve (well, actually, he loved dangerous pursuits, but you know what I mean).

^^ That's something I've been saying they should be doing for years now. Absolutely no reason to be chasing any cars in 99% of cases when GPS and drone technology is so prevalent nowadays. More police agencies should also get the Grappler devices installed on at least some of their patrol cars.

Take his license for a month, real tough there. And we know you can drive a car without a license.

Large accident on North Broadway shuts road
St. Louis police officers investigate the scene of an accident at North Broadway and East Taylor Avenue on April 12, 2021. A driver fleeing from police ran a red light and caused a six-vehicle crash that injured eight people, including the fleeing suspect, who suffered critical injuries, officials said at the time.

An organization devoted to roadway safety has given Missouri poor marks in its annual report on road laws.

The Washington, D.C.-based lobbying organization Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety released its annual “Roadmap to Safety” report card this week, which grades states on driving laws.

Missouri was one of nine states to earn a red rating, the lowest tier.

Yikes!   Spoke with some friends from the county who went to a blues game the other night.  They mentioned how much parking was now (I can't recall the rate).  I reminded them Metro lets off right across the street.  I also reminded them I hear more about accidents than I do issues on the metro.  The metro just gets MORE attention.  They then agreed.

Not to mention those lots have been great targets for break-ins over the years.

Smh, it's not like everyone doesn't know there's a problem there. Safety improvements start in January. Too late for these people.

StlToday - 6 people hit by teen driver in Ted Drewes' Christmas tree lot in St. Louis, police say
A teen driver on Sunday night hit six people who were in the Ted Drewes Christmas tree lot on Chippewa Street in the city's St. Louis Hills neighborhood, police said.

Those six people were taken to the hospital, according to the St. Louis Fire Department. As of 9:30 p.m., one was in critical condition, three were seriously injured and two were taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The youngest person who was hit is 12, said St. Louis police spokesman Mitch McCoy. The oldest is a man in his 70s.

All six are expected to survive.

Police were first called to the scene on a report of a shooting at about 8 p.m., McCoy said.

"We think that that was because the car had hit one of those metal barriers, so when it hit, it sounded like gunshots," he said. "Well, when we get on scene, we find that nobody is shot, and we have multiple people that have been hit by a car."
