The police are above the law. They know the truth will come to light, they just don't care, which is why they drive like a**holes and then half-ass the cover up when something goes wrong. People will complain about it on social media for a week, maybe a local news network will air a segment on TV, perhaps there will even be a press conference from the Chief and/or the Mayor, and then it will go away without consequence.

Makes you wonder how somebody was that fast and out of control in a spot where it's mostly just one lane in each direction, in addition to all the vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

It’s baffling. And not an irregular occurrence downtown.

The victims were were a mother and daughter from Chicago.

So frustrating that anyone who has been downtown at night lately could have foreseen this.

people getting killed by cars in downtown is a very irregular occurrence, my source is me walking 15,000 miles in and around downtown since 2020 and data that shows the last one almost 2 years ago (March 8 2022)

I was referring to people driving incredibly recklessly downtown. I walk and drive downtown 5-6 days a week and it happens all the time.

We are lucky people aren’t killed more often. If we ever get to a point where we have any meaningful pedestrian traffic downtown, it will be more of a problem.

There were over 30,000,000 pedestrians in downtown last year and not a single one was killed by a car.

This is not a uniquely downtown problem (nor is it markedly worse downtown than other areas), it's nationwide

That doesn’t make it any less of a problem for our Downtown. And I do think our DT has more reckless drivers than most areas of our region.

BB221 would compel a police office who determines reckless driving to have the parking division boot a car until the driver-owner posts $500 bond. After 5 days it can be impounded.

A start at actual enforcement, though relies on police engagement.

HOW fast was that vehicle going?  That is just ridiculous.  I realize this isn't unique here, but what is the solution?

"At the end of those 120 days, the Missouri Department of Corrections will make a recommendation to the court in St. Louis if Mahdi Gayar should serve a full four-year sentence."

So, MDC gets to decide? If the driver behaves in prison, what are the chances he gets out with probation after 4 months?
