Is it exceptionally difficult to change stoplight timing here or what?
It's baffling that Tucker still has separate rush hour timing (never brought out a stopwatch, but it seems there are longer greens during rush hour) under current conditions.
I'm no traffic engineer, but when lights are minutes long (both rush hour and off-peak), it's incentivizing speeding. Green lights on Tucker need to be a fraction as long as usual. You can't get up to 50mph when you can't make it through 8 consecutive green lights. And pedestrians barely get enough time to walk across Tucker. Like, that timing is literally not enough for older, mobility-challenged folks.
Seems like something they should've done when putting up barriers.
Also don't understand why there are barriers up north by McDonald's on the 2-lane portion of Tucker but none on the really wide part in the heart of downtown.

My company’s main focus is dept of defense, cyber security with NGA, running nuclear sites for the dept of energy but we have a huge legacy component with transportation engineering and design and have now been incorporating some of the new tech into that. I work on the dept of defense side but when I heard that our transportation side was rolling out this new smart intersection/signal tech and was looking for cities to do free testing I asked if I can reach out to STL city and see if they want the tech- got a yes, so I emailed the streets director to see if they’re interested, that was January and I’ve yet to hear back and I even know the guy. I worked for him.eee123 wrote: ↑Sep 12, 2020Is it exceptionally difficult to change stoplight timing here or what?

This is very high tech stuff where the system learns patterns and self adjusts

^ the video of the suspect stumbling around in the street firing an assault rifle is just unreal. is there anywhere else in the US (in the developed world?) where this sh*t happens so regularly?
Yeah, all over. This is America. When I lived in KC someone took an AR and turned a car into Swiss cheese...on 47th Street...in the Plaza, in broad daylight.urban_dilettante wrote: ↑Sep 14, 2020^ the video of the suspect stumbling around in the street firing an assault rifle is just unreal. is there anywhere else in the US (in the developed world?) where this sh*t happens so regularly?

I live in Soulard. Not that long ago, within a couple weeks of each other, I had some gun action near me. The first time was my friend and I standing on the corner of 12th & Russell waiting for the light to change. This dude goes threw the light, gets through the intersection, yells something indistinguishable, then pulls out a gun and fires three shots in the air and peels off. The second time I was in my apartment, and the sound was so loud I thought it was at my back door. Turns out it was this dude in my alley, and he was talking s*** to these guys staying in the Airbnb in my building, and fired 10-12 AR shots in the air, and again drove off. My dog found all the shells when I took her out the next day (by accident...she was just sniffing around).urban_dilettante wrote: ↑Sep 14, 2020^ the video of the suspect stumbling around in the street firing an assault rifle is just unreal. is there anywhere else in the US (in the developed world?) where this sh*t happens so regularly?

It's a strong and distinctive odor and dogs do like stinky things. I had a neighbor shoot off his pistol at some guy who was walking down the street popping car doors in the middle of the night. At one in the morning a couple of hundred feet away that crap sounds like a howitzer. I'm still pleasantly surprised the burglar didn't decide to start strafing back. Not absolutely certain which neighbor this was, but I do have my suspicions.EssTeeEll wrote: ↑Sep 15, 2020I live in Soulard. ^ Yeesh. It's hard out here in these streets.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot. I thought I heard some shots over the weekend really close (again), and sure enough I'm taking my dog out to pee around 10pm and there are cops slowly circling the block one street over, and going down alleys with their spotlights on. The bullets are raining down.
Eastbound Washington at Tucker is back open to vehicle traffic. Some concrete barriers are still there, so I imagine the streets will be temporarily closed off again starting Friday and going to Sunday evening (or Monday morning) like how they are on the West side of Tucker..

I don't know if it got posted on here but last week there was a hit and run in Centerville that resulted in the person being decapitated possibly by the cable that runs along the road. The head was about ten feet from the headless body. Apparently this caused great trauma for many people who were driving by on the slowdown after the accident. It was a 31 year old from South St. Louis.
There was also another fatal accident in North City last night. And the 195th homicide in South City. Another female victim.
