Surprised no one has mentioned the hit and run of 17 year old CBC student Matthew Nikolai in front of Ted Drewe's, as it has been getting a lot of attention. After receiving what I am sure was a lot of heat from residents, Oldenburg has promised that they will be putting in a crosswalk here, but was light on specifics.

I thought I saw they were planning a median, too.
I hope they have a light there that only goes red if someone pushes to cross.

This talk of fixing that one area is pretty tone-deaf when it's widespread as it is.
I haven't even heard suggestions on the pedestrian death along South Grand a few weeks ago. It's already traffic-calmed there on Grand. It kind of seems like we're just giving up on having safer streets if that requires any action more than the easiest, most obvious step.
How can city leaders be so silent?

The street diet helps and data show it has helped South Grand, but it's by no means calmed. THe travel lanes are 12 feet wide. Mo speed humps, no cobblestones/bricks/bumpy stuff in crosswalks are the enitre street for that matter.

There was a video I should have never watched of a Mercedes blowing through a red light at 100 mph that killed 6 at La Brea and Slauson in LA yesterday.
The horror.
The horror.

Another horrific crash that might have made national news even if one of the casualties was not a member of Congress.

Our neighbors car was stolen yesterday morning in South City. My kids heard a lady screaming and then heard a car speed off. Turns out that she was screaming because the thief had broken into my neighbors brand new car which had keys laying in the seat to their old car parked in a driveway. The thief figured out that the keys were to the old car so ran over and got in it since he couldn't steal the new car. The new car was blocking the driveway so to get around it they drove over the neighbors very steep lawn, partially knocked over a sidewalk railing, drove over the sidewalk and curb, and then sped off.
Now here's the good news. The old car had two flat tires, so the idiot only made it about two blocks. He managed to crash into not one, not two, but THREE alley dumpsters and then put a hole into an alley garage. He was not caught (as of the report yesterday), but the police did say they recovered a cell phone in the car that was not the owners. FINGERS CROSSED.

I don't understand how some of these carjackers hit nearly everything in sight before they're able to make their getaway.
I hope they find the perp.

^I think in some cases they hit things intentionally. Other times they are just really bad drivers.

Good luck to whoever tries to steal my manual shift vehicles. The doors are unlocked. Go ahead and try dumb f*cks.

^Nice to see a fellow manual driver. They would destroy my clutch before moving my vehicle a few feet lol.

^^Someone tried to steal my broken down Miata five speed out of my mechanic's lot. All they did was chew up the lock, but they'd have gotten about ten feet before the battery died and the car stalled. There was a reason the darn thing was in the lot to begin with. No blasted water pump or alternator. (Fortunately, the damage was less than I feared and Belle is back out on the road, good as . . . well . . . before I broke her, anyway.)
The woman that killed 6 in LA last week has 13 prior crashes on record.

The guy turned himself in, admitted he did it, and her office isn't competent enough to do anything about it.
That is honestly more terrifying than any crime I could read about in the news.

Nice to see no victim blaming in news reports, at I didn't see any, for crossing Chippewa outside of a crosswalk.

Is there anyway you can put some sort of tracker on your friends vehicle and somehow link it to Google Maps so we know where this person is at all times? Is that possible?dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Aug 09, 2022I have a friend that has north of 20 crashes.....
Can't they still press charges once they have enough evidence?RockChalkSTL wrote: ↑Aug 09, 2022The guy turned himself in, admitted he did it, and her office isn't competent enough to do anything about it.
