Every time I am sitting at a stop light a see three cars around me with not expired plates, not expired temp plates, but legitimately NO PLATES WHATSOEVER it makes me thing of this thread. (which is every time I leave my house)

Bonus points when there is a $100k police Tahoe sitting behind a car with ZERO plates of any kind and nothing happens. (That's once a week on average and that's only due to how rarely I see police on the streets.) I have not seen a city police officer pull over a vehicle for any traffic violation of any kind in the last 3 years.

Edit: Also I will try to give it a rest about the plates, but it has gotten to the point where you are a fool to actually pay anything associated with car registration in the city and I am fed up with it. I feel like an a**hole paying the taxes when there is such blatant disregard for the law and zero enforcement or repercussions. Mad Max it is.

I used to get worked up. Now I've just subsided to quiet resentment and acceptance... while I continue to pay mine.

^ huh... i wonder if fewer households with cars equates to fewer curb-parked cars and wider-open streets that encourage reckless driving.

less cars = more walking and our roads aren’t designed for walking

I think the simpler explanation is that if you have a lot people of walking in a city / crossing intersections, it's rational that more pedestrians might be hit.  It shouldn't be shocking that more people are hit downtown than out on the edge. (And to state the obvious, no one should ever be struck by a car - just saying that this map highlights the density in Boston and doesn't really provide any other insights).

Edit - also what Denis said.

true, more people walking means more people hit, all other things being equal—despite the fact that the neighborhoods seeing higher incidence rates (Back Bay, Beacon Hill, North End, etc.) are probably some of the most pedestrian-accommodating in the city in terms of width, crosswalks, etc.

Not a car on car crash, but it appears someone fully sent it into the side of 2818 Locust.  Must have happened today, as they didn't even have a tarp over the hole.

Was the apt building looking at its phone? Did it dart out in front of the SUV? Was the apt building wearing dark clothing? Was a human operating the SUV or was it an AV?

seems live every "accident" now involves the guilty party running from the scene. i hope there's a special place in hell reserved for those people.

Happened multiple times at the intersection where I used to live in Soulard. Once it was a bad accident and we had to call an ambulance as a (pregnant!) woman got trapped in the car. The other driver would simply vanish. I always assumed those were stolen vehicles.

If you’re ever in a crash like that, try to remember and take a picture of the other car, Lisence plate and ?persons if feasible.

If they run off it’s tough to provide useful info to the officers otherwise.
