Not sure if I’ve seen this rendering before.

Also looks like Chouteau is really hard to spell so they are looking for a new name for the greenway.

Looks like SLU and the streets department have successfully kept Lindell off of the map. Lindell is the most direct route from most of downtown to most of the CWE. This works if you're traveling to Barnes or coming from downtown, south of Market. However if you're coming from where a bulk of the downtown activity is, Old Post Office area, Wash Ave, etc., and going to where a bulk of the CWE activity is, north of Forest Park Ave, there is no direct route. Currently that route by bike requires going out of your way to weave through gated streets, or getting off your bike multiple times to open a pedestrian gate.

The path along the Metrolink tracks should be built in addition to whatever street route they choose.

A Metro path and a street path would serve two very different purposes.

From a cycling perspective, the metro path would be a bike interstate with few pedestrians and intersections.

The street path would be a slow-speed neighborhood street that you probably wouldn't want to bike on for more than a short distance, unless you were out for a very leisurely ride, or maybe with small children.

How about Show Toes Greenway :)

Seems to me they should maybe go to other way and try to educate people on how to pronounce Chouteau.  It is our heritage after all.

Lindell through the CWE is just too narrow for bikes and cars to co-exist. I know the City has considered reducing Lindell to one lane each way, plus a center turning lane, but I don't think that's realistic, considering the heavy traffic volume (which will only increase with all the Central Corridor development).

Agreed - but I do like the Market/Forest Park route for its potential to put both of those roads on a diet and fix connectivity issues at major intersections, i.e. Forest Park & Grand.

It is not talked about enough but I want to know more about if/how this will compliment Trailnet's plans. Ideally, Trailnet's improvements can compliment the Greenway in places like Lindell between Downtown and the CWE.

The name I recommended was Central City Greenway.

I'm guessing my recommendation of "The René-Auguste Chouteau, Jr and Marie Therese Cerre Central City Connector" isn't simple enough, huh?

Yes! I submitted "The René-Auguste Chouteau, Jr and Marie Therese Cerre Central City Connector" as my choice as well.

This naming competition should be known as the "Chouteau Showdown!"

I've asked this question a few times to Trailnet... and I always interpreted that they don't actually make/implement greenways or bike paths. They are just advocacy, education, and planning for partners that can implement walking/biking infrastructure. So, if you've seen a Trailnet plan it is most likely only a plan, until a partner (the city, modot, etc.) makes it a reality.

Someone correct me if I'm misinterpreting that?

PostDec 11, 2019#638

Also, there's like so many routes - they should name them all different trails right?

Lewis and Clark Trail for the E-W FPP
Chouteau Lake Trail for the metro rail-yard portion
Fairgrounds Tower Grove Connecter
Henry Shaw Trail
etc...

^ That’s always how I’ve understood it. Trailnet does advocacy, GRG is more implementation.

I'd say you could call it the Mill Creek Greenway, but that could open a whole other can of worms. So I went with the above suggested René-Auguste Chouteau, Jr and Marie Therese Cerre Central City Connector suggestion. Because history is cool and we can all learn from it.

Oh please let René-Auguste Chouteau, Jr and Marie Therese Cerre Central City Connector become an actual thing.  Better than Traily McTrailface.

This would be an awesome project, but am I too pessimistic to assume that the vast majority of it will land in the "Unbuilt St. Louis" thread? I would wager that this happens in very small chunks (i.e. around the Armory/Foundry) but falls well short of the renderings and initial plans. Seems a bit more pie-in-the-sky than some of the other major regional projects.  Would be happy to be wrong about it.

i think you will be wrong about it :)  GRG has a dedicated funding source, stays above political bs that usually kills these things and theyre committed to getting this done and have support from the private sector along the path- meaning $

The report suggest prioritizing north city construction. Ive heard Cortex-Grand starts in 2020. I’d expect north city pieces to follow shortly after. GRG identifying anything in north city without funding or implementation secured would be risky, and they’re very risk adverse group.

Risky because GRG has engaged/planned two greenways+facilities (Trestle and Hodiamont) in north city and neither has come to fruition. While I’m sure there are valid reasons for delays, it’s not a great track record for the publics faith. Especially considering the # of projects that have passed the trestle/hodiamont by.

All of this to say, I think GRG will pull (most of) this off.

OK, so their framework presentation shows a continuous, full-blown greenway trail bridge from the Foundry, over the highway, snaking around the Armory, over to the Grand Ave. viaduct, and then continuing along the west side of the viaduct south all the way to Chouteau.

There's nothing along Spring Ave. except the initial portion from Foundry to Armory, although the map that is included still shows Spring Ave. as a greenway corridor to Chouteau for some reason...

I submitted "Mississippi Greenway"

Would love to see a blue line painted down the main drag from Forest Park to the Arch (FPP/Market corridor) that represents the Mississippi River. Then cities and landmarks along the river can be painted on the trail to scale from Minnesota to New Orleans.

Think a giant citywide version of the planets in the loop.

Isn't that already name of the bike trail along the actual river? I still think Chouteau's Greenway (in some iteration) is the best option. But failing that, I hope they don't botch it up and make it twee and trendy.

Also, there is a site plan for NGA West that I have never seen before, with parking garages on the north and south sides of the site and several buildings in the middle of the site instead of one big square building.
