This greenway is actually suprisingly tree heavy. Especially, if you compare these plans to comething like the Indianapolis cultural trail, which is really barebones compared to what I've seen so far on Brickline. If you're referring to turning Olive into a tree lined boulevard like Forest Park Avenue, I also think that's a good idea. I'd actually think Olive from Grand to Tucker would be a wonderful candidate for a tree-lined boulevard.

The planting diagram shows that they’ll be planting lots trees on either side of the bike path, so that should provide some good shade

I agree. I think the city really hurt itself back in the day when they widened Market, Tucker, and Olive (others?). They would need to be sided with very tall buildings to get some shade.

I feel that a large median could be added in the center of Market with trees at some point.

Market had a median for many years until the current Kiener project. And it messed up parades every year. Good riddance.

@Jstange059 i rode to ikea from cortex station on my bicycle today. my riding experience could have been worse but i was disappointed by the lack of trees on sarah that provide shade.

This is a fantastic system, I would love to see it expanded west towards STL to tie directly into the Brickline. It probably wouldn't even be that difficult to get the trail to the Eads Bridge. I suspect based on the "family friendly" marketing of the trail that they won't be expanding it though East St. Louis anytime soon.

Big Bend needs a two way protected cycle track at the very least between FPP and Delmar. The street entrances to Big Bend are all closed on the east side of the street and WashU already has a two way track between Forsyth and FPP.

It should be extended south too, there is only one curb cut between Forsyth and Wydown and seven total between Forsyth and Clayton.

Sounds great, but the only way it would fit would be to remove a vehicle lane (and/or remove bunch of trees), which I don't think would be feasible based on how busy Big Bend is here.

Traveled a lot this summer through U.S. and wondering if Bi-State, the City or any company has flirted with rental bikes? We have better bike infrastructure than some of the cities that I’ve visited but the bike rentals seem popular in all these places. Though I have seen Lyft attempting to exit the space so not sure of the economics behind the systems. Feels like we are one of the last major cities without any rental bikes

I think the 7th Street re-do either will include space for or will include docked bikes. We have the scooters and I know we had a dockless bikeshare some years ago, but that didn't seem to work out too well.

Idea of the day: Nebraska protected two way bike lane

Inspiration: Bryant Ave Bike Lane in Minneapolis 

Route: Entirely on Nebraska from Park Ave in the Gate to Mt Pleasant Street in Mt Pleasant

This would be a two lane protected bike lane similar to the Bryant Ave lane in Minneapolis. Nebraska would be reduced to one parking lane plus one one-way vehicular lane. Maybe alternate which direction the one way goes every few blocks to discourage through traffic.

Nebraska would be a good candidate for this because:
  • Fairly low traffic corridor, no bus routes it would mess with
  • Only about half of street parking spots are generally taken at any given time
  • Nebraska needs to be repaved soon
  • Nebraska has a bridge the crosses 44 and a traffic light to assist crossing Gravois
Just a personal idea at this point, but who knows? Perhaps people with actual power read this

Agree with above. Though, as someone who drives slow and avoids highways by car, Nebraska is on my go-to route between south city and downtown. Always thought Compton or Mississippi would be better candidates for this, especially considering Nebraska dead ends at Park. (Though the bus thing may be a factor)

I agree with this, it would be nice to have some quality bike lanes on low traffic streets, which I think is where most bicyclists commute atm anyway.

The next 2-3+ years are going to bring over 10 miles of new bi-directional, protected and/or grade separated bikeways to the central corridor St. Louis! I mapped the roughly dozen projects and phases that are currently under construction, funded and awaiting construction, or in advanced design with construction projected to start in the next 2-3 years. Seeing an interconnected system start to materialize in this relatively short period will surely bring excitement and attention to the regional effort to improve bicycle infrastructure and provide safer routes for cyclists across St. Louis! 

Let me know if I missed any projects in this central area or if I'm off on the timing of these ;)
