I think this is an odd choice too. Since they're playing at the Dome, why not hold the event in Downtown? Give the neighboring area some business. Maybe they worked out a special deal with Bar Louie in St. Charles? Maybe Hunzeker lives there?framer wrote: St. Freaking Charles? Lame.

Maybe it’s outreach...trying to broaden the potential fanbase, a lot of football fans in St. Charles with disposable income. I could see XFL being perceived as ‘minor league’ and therefore local (City) instead of a professional league that’s metro. That’s my guess. And if they do have a deal with Bar Louie then they could have another event in the CWE. BL would not be a bad local partner (or XFL partner). They're a national chain with lots of awareness and advertising.

^^Valid points. The Rams used to hold simultaneous Draft Day parties at multiple BWW locations. So, maybe this will turn out to be more of the same.
Talking about team names and identities...

Also posted an XFL tidbit in the MLS thread.
I was at the XFL thing in St. Charles, which was a complete non-event. There were approximately a dozen guys were standing around and drinking. The St. Louis XFL President was there, talking to media, esp. Howard Balzer. There were a few camera men from local stations there. I think I may have been in the Fox2 guy's shot. There was nothing for fans, so presentation, no speech, no promo items that I saw.
I asked the female bartender what was going on with the XFL there. She said she didn't know and they all "kinda just showed up.' She asked a guy who was also working at the bar and he came to talk to me. He said, "They made reservations for twenty and we put up those signs (XFL signs in restaurant). We really don't know what they're doing here." I asked if anyone was going to speak, or if there was anything going else going on and he said, "not that we know of. All we know is they called to make reservations for twenty people." I stayed maybe ten minutes, then left.
By comparison, the MLS had several hundred people, maybe 1500 with presentations and major press coverage (Fox2 and Martin Kilcoyne broadcasting live).

Live Stream for team names and logo announcements:
St. Louis Battle Hawks
St. Louis Battle Hawks
I can hear it already, LGB style-
Ba...ttle...Haaaaaaaawwwwks!!!
Ba...ttle...Haaaaaaaawwwwks!!!
Glad they went with nouns and not concepts like ‘Surge’ or ‘Force’
I like that it’s a nod to Boeing/McDonnell Douglas, the sword to Louis IX and overall the NBA St. Louis Hawks. I can get behind it.

I don't mind the logo, not at all a fan of BattleHawks. Should have just went with Hawks.

I have a very hard time seeing this league making it past a single season.
I'm pretty sure St. Louis Hawks is owned by someone (probably the NBA still.) With copyrights and trademarks and the countless minor leagues, youth leagues and college teams, it's getting harder and to come up with names (or record music) without getting hit with some copyright infringement.sc4mayor wrote: I don't mind the logo, not at all a fan of BattleHawks. I was reading through the comments on this Deadspin post about the XFL teams and think I found a better name. The St. Louis Super Hornets.

Someone mentioned BattleHawks is supposed to reference the area's prominence in manufacturing fighter aircraft...so why not just name the team after one?
^ Also 100% agree with the similarity with the Chicago Blackhawks

Photos from today's event at UCBC...a much better event, because ESPN was doing a live broadcast. This was better attended than last night's gathering...lots of media people there today - as you can see in the photos.
I got some good info, nothing I can share at the moment, but some stuff I can give background info on when it's announced. The marketing efforts will start to be locally driven now, they're getting their people in place.

+1
I suggested ‘Super Hornets’ on one of the XFL YouTube channels. But without knowing who (Boeing) owns the trademarks on names it’s all ‘wishes and dreams.’ As I said in an earlier post— It’s about intellectual property and trademarks. You all can rattle off a millions awesome names but odds are EVERYONE IS TAKEN. You end up with the name you can legally end up with. Do a url search on Namecheap and you’ll know what I’m taking about.

I good if they keep the athleticism, the planning phase (huddle), and the scientifically planned formations. I don't really need the really fat guys wall or brain-liquififying hits.BellaVilla wrote:Will this league allow tackling?KansasCitian wrote: I have a very hard time seeing this league making it past a single season.
This is true and I hadn't even thought of the name until I saw that comment. But a potential corporate sponsorship pretty much writes itself with Super Hornets lol. Provided Boeing would be interested in such a deal that is.shadrach wrote: I suggested ‘Super Hornets’ on one of the XFL YouTube channels.
