And I thought STL had issues...

“It is absolutely necessary the (transportation) solution is all about moving cars in and around Cobb and surrounding counties from our north and east where most Braves fans travel from, and not moving people into Cobb by rail from Atlanta."

St. Louis certainly has its issues, but at least its bones are those of a city that was built to be large, cosmopolitan, and transit-oriented. Atlanta was one of those late eighties-early nineties boomtowns that is comprised mostly of autocentric sprawl.

In spite of being an auto-centric, sprawling boomtown, I can see where Turner Field gets torn down and a dense, urban development similar to Atlantic Crossing goes up within months.

Even though it is on the edge of "the hood", Turner Field's land will not sit empty for long. They'll get that land turned over very quickly. It almost makes me wonder if the city of Atlanta prefers that.

I am glad I live in STL and not ATL and glad I'm a Cards vs. Braves fan. But, to get back to topic, is anyone excited about the cowboy bar and ABI trough coming to BPV? This and the massive surface parking lot make me sick as a resident of this city. This will always be a dead zone until we get people living in BPV. That is the only thing that would make this acceptable.

^I actually kind of like the AB Beer Hall idea. And I'm sure the Cardinal HOF museum will be nice as well. But the project as a whole so far is certainly a big fail (especially the cowboy bar concept).

the cowboy bar will clean up on game days. not sure about the rest of the year though. country music is bigger now than it's ever been; i wonder if they can parlay that into success (events & live music, etc.) during the offseason.

obviously the parking frustrates me and I agree that the area won't really take off until there is residential development at the site.

Makes sense. They are in P&L as well. I'm sure we'll see more similarities as the project progresses and Cordish leverages their existing relationships.

I assume the Landing location will be a goner?

STL Business Journal reports 3 new tenants:

Ted Drewes
Drunken Fish
Howl at the Moon (dueling piano bar)

Phase 1 is now fully leased

http://www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/blog ... nants.html

Again, let's hope phase 2 has residents and less surface parking.

I've never really paid attention, so this may seem like a dumb question. I never knew Drunken Fish had locations outside of STL.

Is Drunken Fish a STL based establishment?
If so, where is there home base?
I'd assume it is the CWE location, but not sure.

It was founded and is based in St. Louis. There are 2 locations outside of Stl in KC. It looks like the headquarters are actually on the Landing:

Curious to see how Drunken Fish does at Ballpark Village. If I had to guess, it won't be but half a season until they're motivated to introduce a "game day" menu featuring hamburgers, fries and chicken wings (maayybee with some diluted Japanese connection like a wasabi barbecue sauce, fried edamame or teriyaki dry-rub).

At this rate, I fully expect to see a relocated Hardee's (from Chestnut) and a Tilted Kilt holding down a Phase 2 corner building at Broadway/Clark... :(

^I wouldn't necessarily jump to that conclusion. Drunken Fish has been successful on the Landing for years and that's not exactly a spot known for haute cuisine.

Two things:

1) A DT Ted Drewes location is AWESOME. Never thought I'd live to see it. Only wish it were going into the Citygarden space instead of here.

2) Isn't there already a dueling piano bar on Washington Ave? I'm sure this one will do wonders for their business. The musical chairs continues...

I know bagging on BPV has become sport around here, with some good reason, too much parking, it looks pretty suburban, "bar mall" etc... But Ted Drewes is a pretty good get and will do several things-

If you ever been to the Chippewa location after a game there are like 100 people with gear on, I assume most come from the game - if those people stick around the ballpark for an extra hour after game time - it will be nice

visitors to the region will get to experience it more - if you are from out of town and have no car - chances are you are not going to make it there.

Concerns - right now it is unconfirmed what this store will be - open 10 months a year with Christmas trees like Chippewa? open 6 months like S Grand? Open game days only (would suck) Full menu? - hope so

Now they need to get Gus's Pretzel and Gioia's from the Hill

Drunken Fish says it will keep the Landing location open - probably serve 2 different markets

Joe's Chili bowl needs to be a full service restaurant - the two concepts that failed were not really appropriate for the space (one was too high end, the other too low end) - they need to get David Baily involved

If the Reds, Brewers or Cubs are in town during the summer it's not at all surprising to see their fans post-game at the Chippewa Ted Drewes, mixing in with all the Cardinal fans also there. A BPV Ted Drewes will be a big draw before/after games and will keep people downtown just a while longer.

Heck, if you're sitting in the left field bleachers it's half a thought to run out through the smoking pass gate during a slow game to pick up some Ted Drewes and bring it back in.

Might be a strategic business decision for Drunkin Fish. If they do well in P&L and BPV it might open them up to be considered for other Cordish developments.

I honestly expect to see a phase II announcement within the next few months. I think that more businesses are wanting to get in line, it's just a matter of negotiating and trying to package them together into phases. The big question now becomes how will phase II look... Residential? Office space? Just a second building like the one being constructed? This momentum is slowly building. (All my opinion only)

^Let's hope that something high rise or at the very least, much higher than the first phase, is part of this development. Residential would be great. It this prime location is under-utilized, it will be a shame! I would take one 'major' highrise, over nothing highrise, but I'd prefer several mid-sized buildings, to fill in that gap. I'd hate to see a mall of restaurants and shops, that is half-closed in the off-season.

I agree with the hopes for phase two being residential. With phase 1, I think we've maxed out on entertainment for the time being. I think adding any more restaurant/dining/retail to ballpark village without residential or office space would be overkill.
