It been interesting to watch the games and see all the people on the balconies of the new building.

The broadcast makes St. Louis feel like even more of a baseball city with so many folks watching the game from their balconies. Gonna need more cardinal ways stat!dweebe wrote:It been interesting to watch the games and see all the people on the balconies of the new building.

^Was noticing that the new tower really only obscures Greensfelder in the view from the camera position they use for your usual left field fly ball. The Old Courthouse is still prominently featured in the shot. Would almost be nice to leave a window between 1 Cardinal Way and the next tower. That would leave 360 with a view into the stadium, of course. Which . . . may or may not be desirable. (Maybe they could convince Hilton to kick in a little to keep the view.) Anyway, yeah, it all looks great on TV.
Quoting this over here so as not to take the MLS thread further off topic:
Something like these median/jersey wall mountable screens in KC. They work surprisingly well. Obviously apples and oranges with 670 being depressed here, but this is the general idea.

Having said all of that...I do understand the "psychological barrier" these large structures can create among folks. With a little creativity we could mitigate that to an extent though. I think the bigger challenge is the present land use with much of the land south of 40.
I would be inclined to agree with you. After all, many already walk from bars south of the highway to the stadium on game days. Some better sidewalks, landscaping, lighting, and maybe some type of artwork or painting would make it at least an acceptable pedestrian space considering what flies overhead. Maybe even some sound deadening walls along the elevated portions over Broadway and 8th (maybe even 4th too) to help mask the auto traffic noise (though that'd probably be a tough sell, and may not have much of an effect anyway). They'd look cool though.BellaVilla wrote:Agreed. Its maddening that 64 is treated like an impenetrable barrier, its not.2020STL wrote:Part of the problem with Busch is that it’s locked around all sides with barriers. To the south it’s 64 and to the west it’s a metro station and already built buildings+ Catty corner is the stadium garage. Directly North is BPV development and on the east is a privately owned lot and an already built city block+Catty corner north side is the other stadium garage. Not to mention the stadiums proximity to 70, 10th and 11th street ramps and an abandoned hotel. The location of the MLS stadium is in a prime location in the sense that there is strong presence of a street grid with no barriers that would divide a neighborhood. I think stadium design does play into what the STL City wants to see happen around the stadium. It’s not Goliath and barring like Cincinnati’s West End stadium. It’s approachable and human scaled which I think should be noted because it’s making a statement that Downtown West doesn’t need to be revived by overly large developers (smaller plots of land can be built with row housing etc.

Sweet! I need to get my butt down to the stadium this season.
Going to OneLife recently, it looks like someone has been going in and out of the retail space next to the PwC building lobby (where Village Whiskey is supposed to go). Perhaps they're starting work there or using the space as a "meeting point" for workers working on the Arch Apparel store.
Is everything rented out now retail wise? Or are there still spots left?

From last Saturday, weather cleared up at first pitch but I still got rained on walking to the ballpark.

^Sweet seats! That'd be the way to watch the game. Did you look to see if you made it into the telecast?

Just a bit too far to the right when looking into home plate on a TV

One Cardinal Way is beautiful. Rumor has it a YouTube or Instagram millionaire lives in the penthouse.
^ Can’t confirm that, but I do follow a few folks on Insta that live there.
And yeah, I think the building came out fantastic looking too. Need another one...or two!

^It's nice to see it in ballpark shots.
Great pics sc4! Glad you got to see an exciting game.
Love all your pics, Mayor (especially the recent rowhouse series). You've definitely got a good eye for composition.
I went to the soft opening of Salt and Smoke tonight. Absolutely packed on the second floor tonight. Few masks were worn. and everyone was socializing. It felt good to be around maskless people again. A few names of interest that I saw tonight: Cara Spencer, Jack Coatar, Greg Daly, and Joe Edwards. Definitely a nice space. I personally preferred the terrace despite it not having a few of the Busch Stadium field.

On the other side of Ballpark Village, Arch Apparel is now open. Nice space too. I liked the husky they had walking around the store. Very friendly. It opened last Friday. Masks not required in here either, staff had them hanging on their ear or under their chin, but they're not mandated.

^ That does look nice. Thanks, Chris. I was concerned they were going to leave the giant yellow wrap across the street level (why, I'm not sure). Glad to see that puppy off. Good addition! Also great to see Arch Apparel. I'll have to stop by soon for some of that sweet STL merch.
^ Hopefully that giant now leasing sign will be coming down soon too. Though I imagine it will just be replaced with another ad, unfortunately.
Thanks for the updates, Chris. I particularly like this one:

^ Agreed about the leasing sign. Maybe a sponsor for the OCW deck there. "The Ryan Kelly: The Home Loan Expert Deck."
And yep, that's a good shot. A couple of things...I wonder if they'd ever put decking over the BPV OG building to make that a rooftop option while also getting a cleaner look by covering rooftop necessities (then again, I have no idea if that would even be possible). And this is also a good shot to show the top of OCW. I've been wondering why the top looks different from the east. Why wouldn't they just make the diagonal blade the same on both sides?

^ & ^^ or maybe the leasing sign can be replaced with a 2CW coming soon sign

^Ooh, now that's a neat idea! Given how well the thing sold it would sound like a good bet.
