Chouteau lake makes me think about another unused opportunity and there used to be a plan for bringing 10K new residents to the areas around Forest Park I remember. I feel like the Zoo could partner with some firm on the funding and could serve as a huge lifeline for future revenue streams... and the area has given the Zoo so much support that man it would be nice to see them do more housing/hotel developments as they develop a zoo outside of the city. And if you did a parking garage you could advertise so much easier and more fun and the zoo spends quite a bit of $$ on ads.
Right next to the park would be the easiest marketing for any apartment firm... ignore the jog in Oakland Ave, I didn't care enough to try and fix it, but the goal was to fit those brick buildings along the park strip. I also realize that's park land, but my thought was you would trade the neighborhood an awesome dog/kids park for moving Turtle park, or just keep the housing to the west of the bridge.

Oh absolutely not... I would fight tooth, nail, fire and brimstone against the removal of Turtle Park. That is a city landmark! All cool with me! ...just move more housing further west where the park section is underused - honestly that Hampton/Oakland lot is the biggest underutilized spot. I have also pitched a few years ago tunneling 64 from the SW corner of Forest Park further east would also unlock so many awesome spots for some big apartment complexes on the west side of that area also.SRQ2STL wrote: ↑2:16 PM - 5 days agoOh absolutely not... While it makes some sense to turn that underutilized park space into residential, it's just never going to happen with the Charter amendment that requires a public vote to use existing park land for anything but park land. Although given what the BOA did with Interco Plaza, maybe it's not so impossible...
I think if you partnered it with a housing plan and the idea was to lower housing costs and increase population in the city... I feel like this vote would be 80% for... we've just never tried it before. Oh yeah - could you imagine them facing up against Oakland and then your backyard is literally Forest Park... that immediately becomes the best apartment location in the midwest, and connects Dogtown more directly to the park... would be amazing. With retail spilling onto a wide "boardwalk" style section of the Brickline Greenway 
40 isn't my first choice for highway removal, but you're going to make me a believer. Maybe let it start at the Amaco sign? Sure. Gut 40 like a fish and build up to the park. (And for the love of god, will someone force the damn zoo to do something with the hospital lot?)
