Ya know... if you look at that last photo, you could totally see this done very affordably and still be so amazingly cool because the structure is so amazing already. An easy start would be a road diet with the southern half of the road deck being given to cyclists and pedestrians. Could probably be done well for under $5m

I think the only way this happens is if a large real estate development occurs on the east riverfront. Like complete demo and rebuild of the casino, multiple towers, expansion of national park.

Not St. Louis proper, but an idea for a New Urbanist community on the expansive farm land next to the College MetroLink station.
Not many places in the country where you can build an entire brand new greenfield town next to an existing light rail station that runs directly to the downtown of a major metro area.

I do believe that if St. Louis were ever able to 1) develop a mixed use neighborhood around the Arch 2) build some new skyscrapers with cool LED lighting and 3) develop Clark St between Busch and Union Station as the ultimate sports/entertainment district, it would create such a critical mass of energy downtown that the trajectory of Downtown and St. Louis overall would be forever altered. Whatever you think about these ideas, it would instantly make St. Louis an iconic city across the world.

This is how'd I think the city should develop if they ever demolished I-64 next to Busch Stadium, I'd imagine some taller skyscrapers taller than Kansas City than most in Kansas city.![]()
