There's five different sets of tracks that would need to be crossed, owned by different railroads. Not sure if they'd support any at grade crossing here / what the signaling would be like to account for all the different tracks. Unless some organization is willing to pay for an elevated walkway, not sure there's really a good way to connect Taylor to McRee.  And with the Vandeventer / TGS intersection being redone soon with the new bike path, that'll be available for use.

Yeah, the tracks really pose a pretty significant hurdle, literally, for any bridge that would be built there.

An older idea simply had Taylor crossing the tracks on a viaduct.

Doesn’t seem all that difficult, outside of funding it.

^That could work, though I have no clue what a bridge on that scale costs. What was the budget for the new Hampton viaduct minus the demo?

It’d likely be significantly smaller than the other large viaducts across the rail yards. It’s basically an overpass.

^You'd still need a certain minimum height to give the railroads the clearance they'll want. Which means a certain minimum length, which will be substantial. And you'd be talking two lanes plus pedestrian and cycle paths, right? Maybe Compton minus demo would be closer.

Nice to see the first multi-family component revealed for the ambitious transformation of McRee. This and the HQ/BarK are only the start.

On that plan they also show an 44 exit onto Kingshighway which isn't a bad idea. I'll be excited if they get anything going on Vandeventer. What's the reason for the wooded area behind BarK?

Just wanted to remind everyone that this was a conceptual only rendering from 2012. Don't put any stock into what it shows as it's not tied to any actual plan.

Saw the elevator shafts going up from Kingshighway and ran over and took some crappy photos. 😅 Tough to get a good angle over there.

I've noticed for-sale signs on some of the buildings at Kingshighway and McRee, at the gateway to that McRee corridor that connects Kingshighway with Vandeventer.

I'm calling it now; I expect to see massive changes at Kingshighway/McRee and I-44/Vandeventer in the next few years.

Let's hope there's less parking than this map that was floating around a few years ago, also... build that bridge into FPSE!

Just a reminder that the map was never actually tied to any one proposal. Was just a “what could be” study by UIC. Put zero stock into it other than it being a rendering.

I think this area could support some real density if that Taylor Ave. connection is made.

Build that, and residents near Bar-K can go up Taylor to Chouteau, then across the pedestrian bridge over I-64 to the Central West End, and they never have to deal with Kingshighway or Vandeventer traffic.

In my mind, something 5-to-8 stories gets built on the northeast corner of McRee/Kingshighway, replacing the cluster of buildings near what was once Systems Graphics. I actually think you could pretty much have a wall of that along Kingshighway from McRee up to Manchester someday.

It'll be nice when Jiffy Lube isn't right at the Kingshighway/Manchester gateway to The Grove.
