For Post-Modernism this building is sleek and mixes form, function, and adds ornamentation back into design. Sweet!

I love these towers in the CWE - the ones that are going up and the ones that are already there - including 4545 - they are all good looking distinctive towers but they all look different. I think if you have too many towers that look the same, they all get lost in the uniformity - loose induviduality. I mean look at the chase compared to Park East compared to (much shorter but still distinct) 4545 lindell... i think it adds something distinctive and cool to this already special neighborhood. And that tower I posted earlier I think would **with slimming it up** look good in this neighborhood....

4545 makes me think boutique apartment building. And for some reason it doesn't look "American" to me. Forget New York or Miami, it reminds me more of something you might see in Mexico or Argentina. THe interiors on the other hand, at least from what I can see on their website, seems very familiar. Very similiar to the new construction projects going on in New York and Miami but on a much smaller scale. Speaking of the 4545 website, it appears all the penthouses are spoken for. Anybody know anybody who knows anything?

I've been pretty excited about this project (I live just down the block), but now that they're up to the second floor I just noticed something that troubles me. I always figured that the front of the building would match the setback of the other high-rise buildings on that block, but it's become aparrent that this is not the case. The front of the apartments themselves will be at the setback, and the large front balconies will protrude quite a bit over. This won't look horrible, but the effect of the completely uniform setback will be unfortunately lost.

How is this a bad thing? I'd rather have the building at the same setback rather than the balconies.

Yeah, I think as long as the main mass of the building matches the set-back, it should be OK. That uniform wall of high-rises is so prominent, I can't beleive the City would let them mess it up.

Looks like they are starting on the 7th floor now and that they have put something up on the front...maybe the facade.

I drove by yesterday. The piece you see is part of the pre-cast facade.

I won't pretend to know all my facts, but is this building taking forever. Comparing this thread to the Park East Tower thread, both of which were started in 2004, it just seems like one is taking a lot longer than the other which was almost twice as big, if you know what I'm saying.

That webcam is from the future!

Anyway, I've looked at the balcony alignment and this building won't affect the . . . effect - IMO. The balconies do extend beyond the facades of the adjacent buildings, but you would really only notice this if you're standing at the front door and looking down the line. The balconies will have great views up and down Lindell. I love seeing high $$ residences filling in the streetscape. I certainly don't think that this is all there should be, but it's a niche that's been missing from StL's most elegant neighborhood.

By the way - I was speaking with a Chesterfieldian today and it struck me how little he knew of what was happening in the city - specifically regarding home values. From the conversation I deduced that he paid ~$300,000 for his 2,500 sq ft home. When I told him that the CWE was becoming expensive, he said that he could buy three homes anywhere in the city for what his home cost. When I told him what condos/homes are selling for his only comment was that everyone puchasing in the city must be an idiot because no one wants to live there. [disclaimer]Contrary to what I've portrayed, all my co-workers are not idiots. I work in a large office and there is a quite a variety of people - I'll do my best to pass along a good story now and again.[/disclaimer]

I look forward to hearing the other stories, because if there is anyone in this metro area who have literally no idea about the things in the city, well...they can have their TGI Fridays.

The building does look great. As the top floors are finished, you'll notice the addition of two balconies on the east side of the Lindell-facing facade, and the removal of the circular opening in the roof at the top on the west side of the same facade.

Confirmed and prospective owners get an inside tour at a "topping off" party on THU May 3.

^ Those apartments on the east side of Park Royal are going to be gloomy now, aren't they?

^It has been so long since I have been in the Park Royal. But I used to have a good friend that lived on the east side /back of the building. If memory serves, the bedrooms of his two bedroom apartment faced east. The living room and dining room faced the back. The living room had ample windows and the dining room had french doors with a small balcony. Therefore, the 4545 won't effect the sunshine reaching the living & dining rooms. If the rest of the Park Royal floorplans are similar, 4545 won't be a problem. Perhaps it was designed with a building rising next door in mind.

Nice contemporary addition to the strip of buildings along Lindell. I hope Conrad does another contemporary high-rise design in the CWE or downtown.

When are they going to plant the creepy crawly plants on the balconies (as shown in their presentation pics)? That's what I'm waiting for.

The building looks great!

The white, temporary construction crane that has been swallowed-up by the building during its rise is now being dismantled, piece by piece. I saw what looked to be a 40 foot section lifted-off at about 8:45am this morning from a 7th floor window at BJC. (Did anybody know what great views of the CWE Lindell skyline CAM/Siteman provides?) It was amazing to see workers climbing 15 stories on that thing as they hooked the crane cables to the white pieces being removed. When I pointed the activity out to a nurse, she produced a visible wam-shake. Turns out she's afraid of heights.
