The distinction between mailers made me chuckle.

Tishuara’s mailers are laden with facts and statistics like murders down 40%, shooting of children down 50%, and 911 response time being fixed.

Meanwhile Cara’s are just “Muh Trash!! Muh Trash!!”

But I get. People in StL Hills don’t frankly give a sh*t if a child is gunned down in Walnut Park East. They just want a mayor who’s tough on trash.

And btw, if you’re looking for a candidate is who is in fact tough on trash, the Jones admin just docked trash collector’s pay 10% the next 3 pay cycles for being lazy after the Jan snowstorm.

We are in a post fact world. Facts don't matter anymore, hence why Spencer will win.

Yeah but we’ve got to keep tracking the receipts. One of great pleasures left to live for is the moment we get to tell the fascists, the podcasters, the influencers, and the other charlatans of our age “I told you so”.

Ww get it JJG  and Auggie. You guys hate residents of STL Hills (and probably Soulard and Lafayette Square too) with a passion.

We're all just MAGA Lite to you I guess.

You oughta be worried more about North St. Louis based on my recent drive through there. Very little support for Mayor Jones reelection based on yard signs.

I'm sure you'll have some patronizing reason why those voters aren't excited for four more years. And their lacl of enthusiasm wiill somehow be the fault of St. Louis Hills. As everything in your worldview seems to be.

I'm still voting for Jones.

I just don't understand the appeal of Spencer, who seems to pound the table most about issues that I consider to be secondary or even tertiary to the city's overall health.

I’m not worried at all. I’ve made clear that I would be shocked if Spencer lost.

And no hate for anyone. And no distaste for Laf Square or Soulard. Those places are actually city. St. Louis Hills is just a suburban enclave that happens to be on my side of the River Des Peres.

What I'd really love actually is for you to provide a comprehensive argument to support yourself.

Until then, I'm not sure why you are offended by me patronizing you when you put yourself in that position to begin with.

75% of your comments regarding the election are about what you think other people think while the other 25% are your feelings. None of that matters to me or JJG. The fact the public thinks something means absolutely nothing. That's what Reddit is for and I've been told this isn't Reddit.

I've given reasons for my voting choices.

Again you really should be focusing on North St. Louis and why there doesn't seem to be enthusiasm for four more years of Jones there if she's done such a great job.

^It's not hard to understand. All of Jones's successes are either boring, involve statistics, or aren't yet visible to normie voters, while her failures are highly visible and endlessly echoed throughout local media.

I'm going to vote for Jones because I think she's done well enough to merit a second term.  I don't see any reason to think Spencer is more competent, and she's clearly aligned herself with some interests that I believe want bad things for the City.

That said, I'm pretty confident Spencer will win, do just fine, and history will remember the Jones admin fondly. Not saying she's Ray Tucker or Al Cervantes, but she's definitely better than Krewson, Slay, and Schoemel. Hopefully Spencer will be, too.

I assume this is highly unlikely but is there any scenario it isn’t Jones vs Spencer? Something like a big chunk vote for Spencer or Jones and then also Butler and somehow he gets in the top 2.

I don’t think so, in 2021 Lewis Reed had much more name recognition, 25x more money then butler and still finished 3rd about 13 pts back of Jones and Spencer

I think you’ll see butler be in the 20s. Both jones and Spencer 40+ and Andrew jones 8-12%. Remember the total will be above 100% with approval voting

In the 2021 primary there were 44,571 vote cards cast with the candidates breaking down as follows:
T. Jones 25,388
Spencer 20,659
Reed 17,186
A. Jones 6,428

So a total of almost 69,000 votes from 44,500 voters.

Just a hunch but I doubt we'll see as many voters picking more than one candidate in the approval round.

Jones and Spencer voters seem less inclined to support the other this time around.

Maybe some Butler voters picking their favorite of the two front runners. And with T. Jones and Butler cross endorsing each other that's likely Butler's best chance to break into the top 2..

Finally, some large discrepancies in policy.

https://www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/new ... tions.html

Spencer: Yes on merger, City becomes municipality. No on repeal of earnings tax, critical to budget.

Jones: No on merger, not necessary. Noncommittal on repeal of earnings tax, exploring diversification.

Butler: Kind of yes on merger, "voluntary annexation”. Earnings tax is regressive but noncommittal on solution. Continue Jones exploration.

Where would $200M come from other than big increases in sales, property, and utility taxes?

We can start by ditching the Cardinals exemption from the amusement tax. Repeal the special sales taxes for the Zoo and Museums and move to general revenue. Those are vanity charities for VP ball types now. They don’t need a sales tax subsidy anymore.

The only way I'd support a merger is via municipality. The Better Together crap is crap and is pretty much the worst possible option for the city. So it's good that none of them support a full merger like Krewson did.

Regardless, the city should not be seriously entertaining any type of merger without the county actually on board.

As for the earnings tax, all three seem to more or less have the same plan to keep studying where they could add new taxes to make up for the revenue loss.

Which is funny, because multiple people at City Hall told me she really likes Neal and would probably keep him on.

Even though Spencer and Jones seem to have a very similar ideology it seems the election would be defined based on the quality of the services provided by the city. That's not a good sign for progressives as politicians may shift their focus to a new perceived priority for voters.

I doubt the city merging into the county as a municipality will happen, but it sounds like a very good idea specially because it would help dilute the per capita crime to a fairer number.

I’m not surprised her website isn’t perfect from your phone’s browser (neither are FB, Amazon, or UrbanStL). Her website is perfectly navigable from your computer.
