It’s racism and misogyny.
It is simple fact. Slay wasn't any better.JaneJacobsGhost wrote: ↑Jan 07, 2025It’s racism and misogyny.
I would give Mayor Jones credit on that she has a legitimate platform to run on of reduced violent crime, growing gdp, and balanced/surplus budgets even with refunds given on earnings tax (of course a little of Covid Fed money has helped). I would assume that would be a big part of her campaign.
The huge issue which is tough to see and tough to run on is who can grow city population?

Fresh hit piece against Jones just dropped in the Business Journal. Attacking her for travel (such a lame Fox News style attack). Those hacks have zero integrity or shame.

Wouldn’t surprise me at all if it’s his money behind this stupid, easily discredited “reporting”

What in this article can be discredited? I’m not disagreeing, legitimately asking.

That her work travel was wasteful and did not benefit the city. The article just says, “boy that sure is a lot of travel!”. It provides zero evidence that the travel was wasteful. And given none of the travel was funded by the taxpayer, who gives a *****?
The article also blames Jones for (1) the issues with the north side grant program - a Lewis Reed debacle and (2) the bribery issues in the building division.
None of the money in the north side grant program has been spent. So to blame her for “scandal” where no money was lost is stupid.
And she’s called on the state auditor to investigate the building division’s corruption. It’s not as if she oversees their day to day.
To paint her as the responsible party in each case is a borderline lie. But that’s what you get from the BJ, disingenuous reporting.
Edit: I mean to say the north side grant funding did not get spent without additional scrutiny before the end of the year. I understand it has been spent at this point

To spare you the agony of reading this 10,000 word drivel: the Mayor travels to meet other mayors, attend conferences, collaborate w/ federal officials in the City's interest. It's mostly covered by her own funds, campaign, or third-party orgs. City taxpayers cost? $840 total
Some of the same people who complain about her travel will have no problem with a president who plays golf every other day.

These people absolutely hate that they have a black, female mayor fighting to end the County’s colonization of the city and its residents. Note how few of the people doing the complaining actually live here.

Unfair to blame Northside Grants failures on Lewis Reed, this is a distinctly SLDC failure. But I get it, to criticize SLDC is tantamount to criticizing Jones directly because SLDC has been a major part of her admin--a real problem for Jones.

You’re being too kind. This may be the most brazenly stupid article ever published by the BJ.dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Jan 07, 2025To spare you the agony of reading this 10,000 word drivel: the Mayor travels to meet other mayors, attend conferences, collaborate w/ federal officials in the City's interest. It sounds like Mayor Jones is the first mayor in decades to take her role as St. Louis’s chief ambassador seriously. And she’s doing it without hardly spending a dime of the tax payer’s money.

Here here! Apologies for my ignorance but who is Bob Clark and what is his connection to Cara Spencer?
Racism and Misogyny certainly explain some of the opposition to Jones. Some of it is also just intellectual laziness: Start with the premise that Vervus was corrupt (True), infer that his daughter by default is also corrupt (sounds plausible), find facts to support it (SLDC is running a low-key racket w/ the ARPA money).
Personally, all the traveling doesn't bother me in terms of funding, but rather that its time away from the City where she should be running the day-to-day administration of city business. You know, the core part of her job. There are real problems that need correcting, notably a rudderless Dept. of Corrections and a corrupt building division, that she's allowed to fester because she's prioritized other things as noted in the SLBJ hit piece. Of course she has to travel, network with peers, learn about what other cities are doing good or bad, etc., but that needs to be balanced with running an effective city government: picking up the trash, issuing timely permits, etc. You know, the boring stuff that everyone takes for granted until it goes wrong. Its not clear to me she takes that part of her job seriously.
Crime is down and that's great, and she deserves some credit for it. But it's not enough, and $700M in free money papers over a lot of cracks that continue widening under the surface. Not sure Spencer would do any better, but maybe she deserves a chance.

Has nothing to do with race or sex. Her administration, and she’s the face of it, are fugging idiots. Don’t ever forget, they forgot to invest the Rams money in an interest-bearing account for months. Dumb fukks.
They forgot to tax weed sales when it came legal for months, dumb azzes.
So why don’t one of you emotional leftists who just yell “racism” nonstop address my 2 FACTS above.?

It's time for the city to get in the 21st century and get a city manager to run the day to day operations.

Who is the "we"? How many voices are in that head of yours?

That’s what I thought. You can’t answer the questions about Jones’ administration’s ineptitude.
Your playbook is stale. Just like your sex life.

Right. Some opposition is *just* racism/sexism, some opposition is fact-based. Those are two major mistakes that were eventually correct. Thanks for reminding us.whitherSTL wrote: ↑Jan 07, 2025Has nothing to do with race or sex. Her administration, and she’s the face of it, are fugging idiots. Agreed. Would require a change in Jeff City, correct? Could she appoint someone into a similar role? Or task her Chief of Staff with those duties? I don't know the answers, but for now the Mayor is also the City Manager and she's arguably not doing that part of her job very well.courtland wrote: ↑Jan 07, 2025It's time for the city to get in the 21st century and get a city manager to run the day to day operations.
