I hope you are not trying to tell me there isn't going to be a hearing.innov8ion wrote:Lure should stay open because otherwise we'll be blasted as racists by the Italians running Lure. When is the hearing on their license going to be established? Why keep them open?

Is there a reason why I don't seem to hear about this type of problem at Copia, Dubliner, Sidebar, or Flannery's? There are a bunch of other bars on Washington; surely there must be fights there too?
^ Read the petition letter outlining the multiple issues with Club Lure and you may gain an understanding.
Do the other neighboring establishments alienate themselves by labeling their neighbors concerned with safety as racists? No, but Club Lure does. Do the patrons of other neighboring establishments trash private condo lobbies? No, but Club Lure's patrons do.
There are a variety of valid reasons for Club Lure facing this level of scrutiny and it's why the majority of downtown residents within the petition circle have asked them to leave.

Lure was slated to have a liquor-license hearing this afternoon. The meeting has now been pushed back to next Friday. Kara Bowlin, spokeswoman for Mayor Francis Slay, says the meeting was postponed to give Judge Margaret Walsh time to get caught up on the case after liquor commissioner Bob Kraiberg recused himself last week.
Last month one of Kraiberg's agents was indicted for soliciting bribes from Trupiano and his sister, Aprille Trupiano, in regards to another nightclub the siblings own in Soulard.
Bowlin says that the postponement of the meeting does not mean that the city and Lure are coming to an agreement. She said Lure's plans to end its Thursday night promotion doesn't change the fact that the city plans to proceed with its hearing.
In a letter to Lure dated July 28 the city accused Lure of having improper employees and blamed its patrons for three acts of violence occurring near Lure on Thursday nights or early Friday mornings dating back to last November. Those complaints include a June 11 report in which people in a nearby parking lot allegedly fired an assault rifle at police.
You assume the disruptive patrons were black. Hence my concern on how this is handled.dweebe wrote:I keep waiting for Doug to show up to explain in great detail how the patrons of Lure should be allowed to damage private property because of centuries of racial inequality and us white folk are completely to blame.

Why will the city not acknowledge the 2 years of terror Lure has caused. Since Late November/Early December 2007 Club Lure/Lucky's has been involved in documented shootings and fights inside and outside of the club. 911 calls were made, police responded, Daphne and Kraiberg were called/emailed and met with. This is not new! If Lure is not shut down I believe more investigation should be done with regards to Kraiberg and his staff in regards to the allegation of bribery. In a letter to Lure dated July 28 the city accused Lure of having improper employees and blamed its patrons for three acts of violence occurring near Lure on Thursday nights or early Friday mornings dating back to last November. BTW- What is the FaceBook group Washington Avenue Liaisons? It seems like a front for Lure. I believe a woman, Marquee, is running it, she was meeting outside the Washington Post with Tony recently discussing how to amend the relationship with the neighbors. Guess that is working after the shut down of Wash Ave on Thursday and the fight
Interesting. Here's a link to Washington Ave Liaisons. Why not join and share a piece of your mind?

This is easy - shut down Lure, and 95% of the "issues, concerns, and suggestions for the Nightlife and Entertainment (NE) establishments conducting business along Washington Avenue in Downtown St. Louis" go away. No need to have a group.innov8ion wrote:Interesting. Here's a link to Washington Ave Liaisons. Why not join and share a piece of your mind?
Yeah, right? And oops, this group that was supposed to be a "voice of the people" for Washington Avenue unfriended me for posting news articles about Club Lure. I love how everyone (Trupiano's and their tools) wants to suddenly "have a dialog". A dialog about what exactly? How many gun shots per month are acceptable?innov8ion wrote:Yeah, right? Isn't there a limit on liquor licenses per area? I keep hearing about more and more bars opening up. Would be nice to see more shops to balance things out.
Yes. Let's prevent more businesses from opening. Because there are tons of shops clamoring to open along Washington Ave. [/sarcasm]TheRemedy wrote:Isn't there a limit on liquor licenses per area? Speaking as one of the people living on Washington Ave, that doesn't seem to be the issue. The issue involves clubs like Lure that are a detriment to the neighborhood.TheRemedy wrote:Isn't there a limit on liquor licenses per area? I keep hearing about more and more bars opening up. I agree. This is not a problem of too many bars. It's a problem of one bar - Lure.innov8ion wrote:Speaking as one of the people living on Washington Ave, that doesn't seem to be the issue. By no means should we limit the amount of liquor licenses however it would be nice to see more shops. More clothing boutiques and smaller stores like some in the Loop would help diversify the area.TheRemedy wrote:Isn't there a limit on liquor licenses per area? ^ Yeah, but that comes down to supply and demand. One can't just wish for non-chain shops to appear around the area, although I sure wish we could demonstrate the strength of the Downtown resident & business worker as consumer, attracting entrepreneurs to the area. With this economic mess, Lord knows we could use some new people investing in the City.
(Meanwhile, with the stalls on BPV and the losses of both the MX Exchange and the Bottle District, looks like we're not due for chain restaurants in Downtown, either)
Side note: A reminder from StLToday.com that violence in Downtown has been going on for some time, and that it doesn't just start & end with the Trupianos' businesses:

Just saw something on Channel 4 news about a hearing on Lure "tomorrow morning" at City Hall. I thought it was supposed to be later in the month?
I don't see anything about it on the city website.

The hearing on the 3rd is for the City’s Citation process, not the protest process that is based on the signatures. The protest hearing has not yet been set, and the citation hearing will likely be continued to occur on the same day as the protest hearing, later in September.

I took six hours out of my day and went to the hearing to testify at City Hall. A bevy of media was present to include the Post-Dispatch, RFT, NPR, and some TV stations. It was an interesting process and I plan on writing a blog post about it later this weekend.

Why wasn't it on the City of St Louis website?
Is Lure dead?
From the sound of the coverage on KMOV, Lure is alive, kicking and won't have a finger laid on them. The Central Scrutinizer wrote:So the meeting was actually held?innov8ion wrote:I took six hours out of my day and went to the hearing to testify at City Hall. I found it to be mixed results while checking various media sources. It would be interesting to hear from someone at the meeting has to say.
Hopefully they are shut down because its really starting to give the Loft District a bad reputation.
