Why do you think Dan Gilbert is undeterred?

There are a lot of people in St. Louis who are undeterred but just not quite on the big splashy level as Dan Gilbert. I wish more people were undeterred obviously.

To think, the ball was rolling in the right direction just like two years ago! Does everyone remember the enthusiasm and progress when St. Louis was on the verge on becoming the next hot city?! The last year has really created a nasty emotional situation for a lot of people. It stinks.

Plus, let's not forget that Detroit is still a disaster and downtown Detroit still basically sucks.

Also, WWT is minority-owned. Do you think people perceive their apparent lack of interest in being in the City differently? I'm just wondering.

^ I do believe crime is an issue that needs to be addressed and I believe GIlbert also pays for supplemental security but certainly other cities have powered through downtown crime issues better than we have. Also, I don't think crime was the primary reason development has had a bit of a stall the past few years... again I think it is a factor but maybe top 5 instead of top 2 or 3.

And speaking of Dan Gilbert, he and the Mayor are set to make an "historic announcement" later today.... either it is a RIchard Branson Virgin type prank or it should be pretty newsworthy. It really is hard keeping track of all the projects going on there... and not just from Gilbert. Pretty amazing.

HAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAAHA...thanks for the humor.
There are unfortunate incidents that occur in low income area surrounding the CBD in most American cities.

I think most St Louisians are a bit on the sheltered side and a bit too sensitive to these incidents. Not saying these incidents shouldn't be scrutinized but let's be realistic and a little more hard wired.

^ Every day should be an historic announcement that the Rolling Stones are still alive.

Rumor also is another major corporation will be moving in as well.... maybe Ally FInancial. 5/3 also announced they'll be moving their regional HQ to the building a few months ago.

I mean, what company wouldn't want an incentive-laden deal for a spot next to the home of the beloved St. Louis Cardinals!
Oh please, until 2014, crime had been consistently dropping in St. Louis City.

Companies aren't lining up at BPV because the City, Cordish and Cardinals are incompetent and don't give a *****.

When was the last time we've heard of any pursuit by them of a company from ANYWHERE?

Plus, you have 93% residential occupancy downtown, yet these idiots don't even appear to have a residential project on the horizon.

At the end of the day, WWT could build downtown IF they wanted.

Yes. They are all in bed together and they are sleeping.

Will Cordish pursue WWT? Hell, no! I doubt it very seriously.

WWT is staying in Maryland Heights, they just built the current HQ few years ago. I think this talk of Edwardsville and all options on a table are leverage to get a better deal out of the county and MH.

Downtown Detroit is kicking a... Gilbert bought One Detroit Center and Ally FInancial will be consolidating 1,500 employees in the newly renamed Ally Detroit Center. About 700 employees currently are in the Ren Cen but about 800 more will be moving in next spring from various suburban locales.

Building upon dbl's comment about WWT, I get the sense that if it was leasing its space as opposed to owning them, they'd be entertaining a move to downtown. AT&T One Center could be renamed One World Wide Technology Center.

Maybe if we all tweet to them and complain about them not wanting to be downtown they might get the message

I don't see them leaving Maryland Heights either. I think this article was just to leverage more STL County incentives.

I guess in between sleeping and trying run a Major League baseball club somebody got on the phone with a Walton and secured a urban WalMart for BPV.

Heck, I knew that.

It's not funny on any level whatsoever though. It's not even a joke, really.

If dude would have ripped their design plan as wheelchair unfriendly with a detailed map now THAT would be funny. Step it up in the comedy department man!

^ Does anyone remember the RFT April Fool's joke that the Kiel Opera House was going to be lifted and moved over to the empty BPV space? That seems like four lifetimes ago yet we still only have one little bitty building on the site.

ah, here it is.... from 2006

I'm not sure this originally ran on April 1 now, though.

World Wide Technology could move into the AT&T Tower.

Imagine World Wide Technology signs on top of the building.

PostApr 01, 2015#49

Built for a single tenant, could WWT get this building at a bargain basement price along with major incentives offered by the city.

Imagine the residual economic impact of new apartment and condo units, restaurants and retail.

^ I believe ATT One center is owned by some deep pocketed NY Real Estate Investor group and not on the market. Instead, my gut feeling is you got a similar situation with ATT One Center as you do with BPV. The controlling interest can sit and wait because they are not in a bad financial position or need to turn revenue on this particular building or development in the near future. Another way to put it, why give WWT a basement price deal when you don't have to. Heck, at some point I thought their would be rumors of Wells Fargo taking a hard look at One Center but haven't read anything that suggests even that.
.
At this point, I put more faith in McKee snagging a high profile tenant for his proposed office tower that would book end Gateway Mall before something goes up in BPV and maybe even before ATT One gets a major tenant again.
