I see, indeed. Weird about the basement isn't it? You can tell how much the grade of the lot has come up since the thing was built because what was once a raised basement is now almost completely below ground. The basement door and windows, though mostly exposed, are sitting in a deep hole, while the other (also very old, antebellum) home on the lot is situated essentially at grade.

if you walk the railroad tracks right behind that place along the river, there are a few of these things, just empty shells of stonework etc. one has a fireplace in it. to restore this one wouldnt take too much, and would really give some good history on the place if done right.

The tree-covered hill on the extreme right looks like the Illinois bluffs, and the highrise in the center could be East St. Louis. The grain elevator indicates a food-processing plant, or maybe a brewery (probably not AB; security's too tight).

Or maybe it's Kingshighway looking East.

I can't wait for them to turn the 9th street garage into lofts. Unfortunately, they will have to tear down the Syndicate for loft parking, but there is always a cost to progress.

The Alexa is on hold so I dunno if it matters or not.
