At least five stories. I'm almost guessing exactly five, in fact. Reinfoced concrete. It's a utility stair, to be sure, but still, that's suggestive. Transom light. An older door closer, but updated ADA handles. This is an absolutely wild stab in the dark, but McElroy Sloan Shoe at 2035 Washington? Larger buidling makes me wonder if it's actually more than five stories and that stairwell randomly ending five floors up is an oddity. (Maybe it's the fire escape off a large lobby, or there's an interior access to the light well, or something like that.) If it were larger I might guess Railroad Exchange. So many possibilities. I don't expect either of those is right, but I'm excited.

^Railway, railroad . . . surely someone changed the name in reorganization at some point.
Okay, not RX. How about the old Stix?

No, it is the Railway Exchange lol. Like I said...good guess. I took it back before the department store closed but after the rest of the building had been abandoned. I have a ton of pics from the upper floors somewhere.

Ah! Sorry, I figured "good guess" meant I was close but not there yet. Was that just the top story of the department store at that time? Seems an odd place to end a stairwell. I'm not sure if I should get a shot, since I made two guesses, but maybe I have something suitable floating around here . . .
^ I don’t believe that was the end of the stairwell. If you look really closely the rail curves around on the right. I do believe that the department store ended on the 5th floor by this point tho.

You're entirely correct. I'm not sure why I thought it ended . . . Anyway, even if I cheated with two guesses, I suppose it's best to keep things rolling. Here's one I find interesting for historic reasons.

St. Paul Rd specifically.
This was a fun one! I had to do my research on what railroad was called the Scenic Limited, and I literally followed the line on Google Maps and street viewed every overpass.

^That would do it. I would call it Sherman Beach rather than Castlewood, but that's the same vaguely general area. Yes. St. Paul Road. It's a long time since MoP ran the Scenic Limited. They're more famous as the "Route of the Eagles," but before there were Eagles there was the Scenic Limited.

^My first guess would be the central library, but I can't seem to confirm that. It's not the outer gates, at the least. Trying to think what other turn of the century buildings have such impressive gates. Those aren't Wainright's. Can't imagine that's the MP building, as there are no trains. Nor the SW Bell building, as there is nothing to suggest communication. Doesn't really feel like a synagogue to me, but . . . well . . . I am stumped. Looking forward to either someone solving this or the next clue.

Why on earth would I expect you to step out of Midtown?
It's the Moolah.
Okay . . . here's another. Probably not a huge challenge, but I haven't gotten out much lately.

Okay . . . should I give another hint, or does anyone care to guess? I personally love the winged hourglass relief around the clock, but there's plenty of other neat details.

sc4mayor is correct. Central Library main reading room. Next up?
I hate to let this thing sit, so if sc4mayor doesn't mind I'll offer up another.

Appears to be the old clock on the new bank at Grand and Hartford. That one always amuses me.
