^Who's waiting for a turn? I'm waiting for talented people to finish complicated work. You still have to wait, but I'd say there's a difference.
Not sure what Dweebe means by who's waiting for a turn? Dweebe can elaborate on that but I do think that talented people can finish complicated work and do it right when given a sense of purpose, a goal and URGENCY!!   Yes, complicated but we have been building terminals for decades and modular techniques are upping the game & accelerating construction schedules.   Lets get D updated, move planes over and start knocking gates that need to be replaced.
The quote in article is not about getting it right but not willing to push or the the keep the status quo on a infrastructure project that is way overdue for the region in my opinion.

“Well, I think the thing that we’re doing is patiently going through and making sure that—this is about a four-billion-dollar project... Prudence is really the key here and that’s what we’re doing. We’re going very slowly and getting this done right,” O’Malley said.

I am pleasantly surprised at how well all these TATL flights are doing. Largely absent tax $ now too. Well done region!

As to the other discussion in the thread.....I follow local biz news closely and have for a long time.  Yet, I know very little about this World Trade Center Association. Be that as it may, in 2026, downtown Clayton is the CBD for the region, and as much as we all wish DT STL was booming, Clayton is the superior location.

Regarding the delay in full airport redevelopment schematics… I think the opportunity before Boeing to secure the F/A-XX contract is a big factor. Very much, Boeing’s buildout of the Brownleigh tract, on the northeast side of the airport, has been booming with new construction in multiple phases for the F-47 NGAD fighter.

Should the company secure the Navy’s 6th generation fighter contract as well, they’ll likely need even more land. Part of this includes the ongoing redevelopment of the Northern Track, the former Curtis-Wright manufacturing center.  Current planning shows it will swallow the current hangars being used by GoJet Airlines to the site’s western edge. Where will they go? They’d lose their hangar - and a whole lot of multi-use apron. Maybe that’s a consideration underway as they figure out the rest of it.

I am aware that there’s a lot of talk by Southwest, and that they’re increasing flight operations in Nashville as plans for STL remains in flux. I'm thinking that perhaps Southwest is not the only factor here.

I reasonably believe the Department of Defense will make their announcement on the F/A-XX in the near term and that Lambert’s redevelopment plans will likely emerge afterwards. I’m thinking the new plans could also see a new cargo center built, replacing the current site next to the Brownleigh site where UPS, FedEx, and Amazon operate, perhaps moving their terminal to a new one on the western side of the airport grounds.

This is pure speculation, and I have no inside information on this, but this seems very reasonable as a compounding factor.

There is a plan to move Gojet, Boeing has to pay for it, if needed. Not sure where they plan to put them thought. Could be off the “new” runway by their offices.

Yes, the improvements to support the new circulation plan.

This outlines the timeline for airport and roadway improvements. I assume this is the funding necessary for the first item listed under “unfunded”

Any idea why these properties in Kinloch are highlighted? Does the airport own these or do they need to acquire them?

I say this not being 100% positive. But I think they may own them. They gave up land recently over there for a park if I remember correctly.

Sen. Eric Schmitt wants to spend $30 billion improving U.S. airports
U.S. Sen. Eric Schmitt has introduced legislation, the "Modern Skies Act," to allocate about $30 billion to upgrade air-traffic equipment and facilities.
  • Rebuilding terminals at three medium-sized hub airports, to show how service can be improved in smaller communities.
  • Modernization of the Federal Aviation Administration's traffic control systems.
  • Building and improving control towers, terminals and other facilities.
The way the bill is written, STL is very likely to be one of three medium-sized transitional hub airports.
Transitional hub airport is an airport that...
  1. was classified as a medium hub airport as of the date of enactment of this Act.
  2. includes a primary terminal building constructed before Jan 1, 1990
    (a) remains in active passenger services and
    (b) continues to serve as the principal commercial passenger terminal.
  3. Did not complete a comprehenisive redevelopment or replacement of it's principal commercial passenger terminal on or after Jan 1 1990, and
  4. has a terminal modernization, rehabilitation, or reconstruction project that
    (a) is included in a capital improvement program of the sponsor of the airprot
    (b) has completed environmental review in accordance with the National Environment Policy Act
    (c) has entered the final design stage.

^Props to Senator Schmidt on this one! He truly understands the importance of Lambert Airport to STL. It was by his invite 14 years ago that, along with 2 other members of this forum, I participated in a "guerilla lobbying" campaign to the Missouri General Assembly in favor of the "China Hub Initiative" and the "Aerotropolis" bills, all of which he vehemently supported.

The broader bill will survive but the pilot program and it's $10B for three airports will be a fight in any scenario. Some republicans will want less spending and some democrats will want less restriction on qualifying airports and congressional control (vs DOT) in choosing airports.

This will be a part of December budget showdown during a lame-duck session between November 6th and January 3rd. The best thing going for it is that the administration/DOT are already onboard. If a $4B renovation of Melania Trump International Airport in St. Louis crosses his desk, he'll sign it.

Indeed, y'all. I remember the good old days when the GOP recognized trade to be a good thing, especially free trade, and when tariffs were eschewed as unnatural to free market capitalism. This was foundational to the platform. Amazing how things changed with the descent of an overweight orange reality tv guy on a midtown escalator. But I remember what it used to be about...

Back on point: The "Modern Skies Act" should really help STL. Here's hoping Senator Schmidt's bill passes.

Went thru NY AA Terminal B at LaGuardia yesterday. Hope our terminal has half the upgrades that place has. I noticed little things like check-in luggage scales flush with the floor. No lifting. Every booth and table in the restaurant where we dined had multiple electric plugs in the wall and built in to our booth table to charge phones while we ate. Beautiful fountain programmed on a loop that also played new renditions of NY NY periodically. Good use of LED lighting and large screens. Single car and cab loop as I think we are planning from interstate. Wide open space and tall ceilings throughout for lots of restaurants and shops.

^ I'm assuming something related to Boeing related at Lambert Field.

Maybe for all the Boeing defense contracts in hand they can throw some chump change at improving Lambert.   Wouldn't put my faith in current Congress.   They put all the money into defense industrial & prison/wall building complex.

^Call the linear concourse concept the St. Louis Border Wall and call the customs hall a temporary detention center? I kid. But I can't say as I've ever found immigration a pleasant process, so . . . only a bit. Sometimes it's less unpleasant, even routine. But I've yet to be greeted by a customs agent with wine and roses. (Border control would probably frown on customs agents handing plant cuttings to folks who have yet to clear agricultural inspection.)
