A couple nights ago, St. Louis was featured in one of the rounds of the game show, The Perfect Line.

Question was: "Two-Word City Population" and the contestants had to line them up from largest to smallest. Embarrassingly, St. Louis landed between Ft. Lauderdale and Oklahoma City, with a population of 269,000.

Not sure if this was posted here yet, but the NY Times ran a piece today called "In the United States, Every World Cup Team is a Home Team".

St. Louis (with its Bosnian community) is the first city spotlighted:

Having thrown several events at Bevo Caffe Lounge I can attest this is a great venue and will be packed tonight.  It's been opened about a year and the owner, Mersad, is a super nice guy.  The food is great, the design of the venue is wonderful (indoor/outdoor) and even has a cigar lounge with separate ventilation.  Highly recommended.

It bugs me so much that the NYTimes used "St. Louis, Mo" instead of the APA standard of "St. Louis" (without Mo.), especially because other major cities mentioned in the article do not have the state abbreviations. My hunch is they use a 300,000 population threshold, but that still is not in line with APA guidelines in which St. Louis stands alone.   The NYTimes usually gets it right, so this insulting!.

Vance Eads Speech.

Yesterday on the 4th of July, 2026, Vice President JD Vance gave a speech in New York with tall ships cruising by behind him.  The speech centered on George Washington's vision of the future involving canals, rivers, waterways, and ship building.  And American ingenuity to make Washington's vision happen.

It had a nice 5 minute portion on James Eads and what he did in St. Louis and New Orleans.  Here is the Youtube portion on Eads starting at 10:00 minutes and going to 15:00 minutes.

Speaking of media... got to give a shout out to KLOU's afternoon on-air personality, Jeffrey T. Mason - at the top of the hours - he always says - "the best variety of the 80's and 90's from America's Greatest City!"  It is these type of positive and important reinforcements of STL and the region as a whole that change perceptions IMO.

Just a summary of things going on.

The competitive St. Louis Cardinals ushered in a national tarps off craze in MLB. Their charismatic All Star won the Home Run Derby in comeback fashion, shushing Philadelphia while celebrating with his beautiful family. Following cheap criticism from cranky Chicago fans, Adam Wainwright goes viral in a lengthy and detailed response defending the greatest fans in baseball, Busch Stadium, and the City.

During a home derby W against kansas, a St. Louis fan provided MLS’s most viral moment of the season. Giving the entire league the visibility it so badly needs following the World Cup.

All I have to say is, thank god the sports world has STL.
