I will accept the CEO position at 500k to host events and make zero discernible impact on the business community while posting to LinkedIn that the sky is falling.
Who decides on the hire if so many vested parties were against it?dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Sep 26, 2025Feedback on the new GSL CEO hire has not been from random residents, this is way too inside baseball. These reactions are coming from people who want GSL to succeed and have a vested interest in its success. Yet so far, not a single positive comment has been said. The response has been overwhelmingly negative.
Many feel this was a panic hire. Some have raised concerns that GSL’s pay scale for this position is out of alignment with peer organizations in other metros. The sentiment is that GSL took a step back this year, particularly during the Rams settlement funds debacle.
For many stakeholders, the CEO search was seen as a chance to reset, re-energize, and reposition the organization to drive results. Yesterday’s announcement has instead deepened frustration and concern. The prevailing mood has shifted further downward, with confidence in GSL’s direction eroding when it most needed to rebuild. A lot of people want to say this publicly but for various reasons cannot or haven’t been willing to date, I think that may change soon and the media will start digging deeper

Hire was made by GSLs executive committee of a hand full of people
In this interview Kitchens comes off as kind of crazy. Changing all the employees titles to partner, putting up a big chart on the wall of each of their 1, 3, and 5 year goals. Sounds like a stressful work environment to me.

I don't think that seems crazy at all. Some people work better with tangible goals - having them written out might keep people focused on what they're doing, rather than looking for things to do.PeterXCV wrote: ↑3:20 PM - Jan 08In this interview Kitchens comes off as kind of crazy. I agree with Bart. If you don't have goals and metrics, how do you plan? Every successful organization I have been part of has included this kind of activity as a matter of course.
I'm not against goals at work lol, what's weird is having your name up on a chart on a wall with your and everyone else's goals written there.

I think this might be matter of interpretation. I took it to mean GSI's goals were up on the wall, not every individual partner's goals.PeterXCV wrote: ↑5:08 PM - Jan 08I'm not against goals at work lol, what's weird is having your name up on a chart on a wall with your and everyone else's goals written there.
To each their own, and room for difference of opinion, but that does sometimes motivate people to work harder if they are seeing others accomplishing their goals. It does lead to a more competitive workspace and that can be good or bad depending on the other parts of the office culture.
I enjoyed the interview, and have generally enjoyed the interviews STL Mag does on the 314 Podcast. The guy sounds like he knows the direction he wants to go. Best of luck and I hope he is successful.

^Is there any good sense at all if these were particularly representative, or cherry picked? Do they play host to energy intensive graphic processing arrays for generative AI or merely your usual cloud storage and connectivity? Was the power consumption at the time of the visit typical, or towards one extreme or the other? I worry that this was little more than a propaganda campaign to sway votes. Genuine research would involve someone other than the promoters setting the itinerary and shouldn't involve the same level of non-disclosure agreements. I have no faith that this was well intentioned.
Glad GSL is really putting effort into attracting like 20 janitorial and maybe 10 IT positions that the data center will hire.

If it was only that nobody would care and you know it, there's more tax to be received by those investments. My only concern is that electric rates for Data Centers must be structured in such a way that other consumers don't end up paying higher prices.PeterXCV wrote: ↑1:03 PM - Feb 05Glad GSL is really putting effort into attracting like 20 janitorial and maybe 10 IT positions that the data center will hire.

Trump, SCOTUS, and the billionaire class have decided they’re done with innovative/creative economy that embraces competition and are transitioning us to a bribery based, toll booth economy.
The tech oligarchs are forcing us to build these data centers which they will use to undermine our democratic institutions and monetise the scraps when it collapses.
Peter Thiel literally talks about this plan with Jeffrey Epstein.
