The Greyhound route from St. Louis to Kansas City used to do precisely that. Dropped off in the T1 parking lot tunnel, as I recall.Auggie wrote: ↑Aug 04, 2025I don't really see why Lambert couldn't just be a stop on the route with Downtown being the terminus.

The silver lining of not having much of any transit funding from the state is we're not subject o their whims. Of course their whims are felt in other functions of gov't.

StreetsBlog USA - The Fall of Philadelphia
https://usa.streetsblog.org/2025/08/27/ ... iladelphiaThe idea is to make city governments helpless while continuing to blame them for everything that goes wrong in cities. It plays well in conservative media, but it’s not fair and it’s certainly not democracy. When dense cities are not allowed to fund their services in a way that reflects their needs and values, it guarantees that the city will be a site of failure — failure that will be especially visible to the media because in dense cities everything is more visible.

St Louis Metropolitan Region Transit Map
St Louis Metropolitan Region Transit + Greenway Map has had updates to align with Metro route changes and bikeway/pedestrian route openings and such. As I always say to folks, let me know if there's ever anything new I should add that is verifiably completed and open, or I have looked over.

KTVI - Lane reduction coming to Old Halls Ferry Road
https://fox2now.com/news/missouri/lane- ... erry-road/One of the big changes will be reducing the number of traffic lanes from two in each direction to one. Bike lanes and dedicated left turn-lanes are also part of the plan.
“The amount of traffic on Old Halls Ferry in this area is nowhere near necessary for two lanes in each direction,” said Glenn Henninger, St. Louis County Department of Transportation.
The posted speed limit through that area of Old Halls Ferry is 35 miles per hour. A one-week traffic study found 140 drivers were traveling at more than 70 miles per hour.

Two words: unfunded mandates. Theoretically a bus for public transport should be very similar to a charter bus. We know that isn’t the case.chris fuller wrote:US Cities Are Paying Too Much for New Transit Buses - Bloomberg (archive.ph)

Metro to run special bus for 19 Blues home games from Downtown Bellville to Enterprise Center.
It will cost $10 and depart 1-1.5 hours before the game starts.

Is this a waste of money? There’s already a train that costs $5
I also thought about that but its probably faster cuz there's so many stops between Belleville and Downtown, and probably will take some cars off the streets so a win in my opinion.

Yeah. Feels like a redundant service that could just easily be offered by a local bar instead of the tax payer

Could make money for Metro, right? If it generates enough revenues, I'm all for it.JaneJacobsGhost wrote: ↑Oct 09, 2025Yeah. Feels like a redundant service that could just easily be offered by a local bar instead of the tax payer

Insane article when 95% of the public discourse is about crime and safety on transit and the actual reality is that tranist is a far safer mode of transportation than driving.
"Left wing" media at work here.

Good thread response to this here:
Tldr, these articles dont in any way contend with what it would cost to make transit "safe," esp with so many transit systems broke.

The MetroLink takes 35 minutes to get from Belleville to Civic Center station. The drive takes 25-45 minutes, depending on traffic, so it's a bit of a wash. Seems like pointless, redundant service for twice the price.

How much would something like this cost? https://www.threads.com/@outsmartwithai/post/DP9eF_HjFdl?xmt=AQF0I1JIMI2dCPeMIKjObXD3afJ73XWyb6mKhHrbj9GxuAAuggie wrote: ↑Aug 04, 2025True, but buses cost less than trains, and the state can just contract a private company to run some of these routes. They already use federal money to subsidize some bus routes.PeterXCV wrote: ↑Aug 04, 2025Sounds good but the best MoDOT seems to be able to do for non-car transport is commission studies. MoDOT taking bids to study possible new inter-city bus routes to fill gaps left by private bus companies.
Some possible routes include St. Louis to southwest Missouri, St. Louis to Hannibal, Columbia to Jefferson City, Jefferson City to Rolla, etc.
The study would be finished by 2027.
I am significantly more confident that some form of state funded inter-city bus system will exist someday in the near future than STL-Springfield trains.
I think it's for the folks who are scared to take the train.Tim wrote: ↑Oct 17, 2025The MetroLink takes 35 minutes to get from Belleville to Civic Center station. I'd rather drive to Soulard and take one of their shuttles after a nice little pregame somewhere.
