This may have been going on for some time before, and perhaps from both parties, but has it ever been this intentional??
Yes. Republicans intentionally targeted state legislatures before 2010 so they would have broad control of redistricting.STLCityMike wrote: ↑Aug 30, 2025This may have been going on for some time before, and perhaps from both parties, but has it ever been this intentional??
In 2012, Democrats won the popular vote 48.8% to 47.7%, but lost the House by 33 seats. This was in large part do to gerrymandering in the Midwest.
Wisconsin was D+1.5 but 5-3 GOP. Michigan was D+5 but 9-5 GOP. Ohio was R+4, but 12-4 GOP. Pennsylvania was D+1 but 13-5 GOP. Virginia was R+2 but 8-3 GOP. New Jersey was D+9 but had a split delegation. North Carolina was D+2 but 9-4 GOP. Indiana was R+8 but 7-2 GOP.
Some genuinely insane gerrymandering happened back in the 2010s by Republicans, and it was very intentional.

Missouri Republicans poised to require ballot initiatives to carry a majority in all Congressional districts to be approved.
It will need to be approved by Missouri voters next year, ironically.
Jefferson City needs to look like post-Sherman Atlanta when it's all set and done.

Also that wouldn't apply to ballot measures put on the ballot by MoLeg. Power grab
Yup. 50%+1 to make it law and literally impossible to ever overturn, even if Missouri by some miracle became a solid blue state. Under the new standards, it would fail because MO-1 would say no. It is so extremely important for us to reject this nonsense next year.

We already had a nasty 2025 legislature. One of the worst for the state in decades. I'm sure they'll try to outdo themselves.

Interestingly, in terms of partisan voters on a statewide basis, Missouri leans right but isn't by any means the reddest state - it is the 18th most Republican, so 32nd most Democratic. The trouble is an electoral system which lets state legislatures draw congressional districts.

Yeah Missouri isn’t nearly as red as many of its neighbors OK, TN, AR, etc.

You do grasp that weed would have not passed under the new initiative process law they are trying to get approved, correct?whitherSTL wrote: ↑Sep 17, 2025Great comeback, I smoke weed, pal…JaneJacobsGhost wrote: ↑Sep 17, 2025It most blow being a con in a red state that has to put up with people smoking weed and women going to the doctor.whitherSTL wrote: ↑Sep 15, 2025It must blow being a lib in one of the reddest states in the Union. ^ Doesn't matter so long as his party leaders are 'owning the libs'. Freaking cult...
Who knew Missouri benefited so much from transit .... in New York City!

^In the days of St. Louis Car we benefitted even more from transit in New York, Chicago, and . . . everywhere. I can't quite recall for sure if the ACF facility in St. Charles made transit equipment, but I have a vague recollection they might have. (They certainly made passenger cars at one time.)
