So, we are all saying we should be doing this to the River Des Peres instead..
Oracle is moving their world HQ to Nashville. I'll never understand how Nashville - of all places - became such a boomtown.

They have visionary leadership, did everything right and of course, they have the country music industry. They are a capital city with decent weather. The amount of celebs that have moved there in recent years is staggering. They are in an income tax free state that attracts manufacturing with there right to work status. Right or wrong, businesses are adding jobs in those states. Maybe with the VW plant unionizing in TN, that will cool down. I don't see Nashville slowing down. They have everything rolling right now. Now, saying that, Oracle has been quite transient in recent years. I would take them in a heartbeat if I were Nashville.
On another note, I am traveling there in a few weeks. For a hotel 30 min south in Smyrna, $250/night after fees and taxes. That is insane. The place is well on it's way to pricing people out.

I know it’s not really going to be written this way, but I have to imagine this is just more salt in the wound for KC given Oracle’s purchase of Cerner. First Austin, now Nashville.
While drafting this I looked into employment data. Kansas City has been passed by Austin, Nashville, and Indianapolis in the last five years.

The state of Missouri is actively holding its cities back.
Actually, that’s exactly what is being written.addxb2 wrote:I know it’s not really going to be written this way, but I have to imagine this is just more salt in the wound for KC given Oracle’s purchase of Cerner. First Austin, now Nashville.

“But a Nashville world HQ will allow Oracle to be "part of a community where our people want to live," per Larry Ellison.”
ouch.
Not sure exactly what you're referring to, but the Tennessee state legislature seems to be just as right-wing as Missouri, and yet people and businesses keep flocking there.
I was referring to the city's archaic land use policy, which is under review now.dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Mar 26, 2024hey look that's a river that didn't breach Major flood stage 4 times in last 10 years and those 4 are in the top 10 in the history of the river in stl or breach flood stage 36 times since 2000.beer city wrote: ↑Mar 26, 2024Hey look! riverfront development that does not involve low job density industrial! Nashville tourism is all aflutter https://www.wkrn.com/news/tennessee-news/continued-decline-in-us-canada-relations-affecting-tourism/
I work at Amazon. No one likes Nashville. It’s a “hub” that leaders force on everyone due to space availability but when given the chance to vote on team meetings or summits, it’s dead last. My EU and APAC team members openly revolt to the idea of flying around the world to Nashville.chris fuller wrote:Nashville tourism is all aflutter https://www.wkrn.com/news/tennessee-news/continued-decline-in-us-canada-relations-affecting-tourism/
Mutual understanding that “once is fine”.
It’s popular relocation for those already in or from middle America but no one from Seattle or DC are moving to Nashville without a big pay bump.
From an urbanist perspective, the city overwhelmingly rejected a transit plan that included a downtown light rail tunnel a few years back and now is spending $3 billion to add sidewalks to streets as part of their new "transit" plan.
It's a pretty awful city, totally unsurprised that people don't like going there. There's way better cities, even in the south.

It's obvious that Nashville was never meant to become as big as it has. Significant growing pains. I do believe that transit plan would've passed if not for the Mayor Megan Barry scandal that occurred in the lead up to that vote.Auggie wrote: ↑Feb 27, 2025From an urbanist perspective, the city overwhelmingly rejected a transit plan that included a downtown light rail tunnel a few years back and now is spending $3 billion to add sidewalks to streets as part of their new "transit" plan.

We finally agree Auggie! Nashville sucks.Auggie wrote: ↑Feb 27, 2025From an urbanist perspective, the city overwhelmingly rejected a transit plan that included a downtown light rail tunnel a few years back and now is spending $3 billion to add sidewalks to streets as part of their new "transit" plan.

r/Nashville and r/SameGrassButGreener has definitely painted a picture for me that people who live in Nashville really don't like living in Nashville.
A generally soulless and overcrowded city. Not even to mention the constant presence bro-country tourists and bachelorette parties

I push St. Louis in r/SameGrassButGreener all the time, but not sure how reflective the reddit is on widespread preferences, considering everyone hates on Texas, FL, CO, NC, etc. Yet, that’s still where people continue to go.
It’s amazing how quickly Nashville lost its charm.GoHarvOrGoHome wrote: ↑Feb 28, 2025r/Nashville and r/SameGrassButGreener has definitely painted a picture for me that people who live in Nashville really don't like living in Nashville.

IT IS THE MOST EXPENSIVE SINGLE PROJECT IN NASHVILLE HISTORY.
Heck, this 60,000-seat stadium is projected to cost $2.1 billion … $1.26 billion of which is subsidized by the public.
That makes it the largest stadium subsidy in U.S. history.
And there you have it — you have to pay to keep up with the Joneses in the NFL.
The current stadium is functional, but old and obsolete by today’s standards.
All that concrete and steel and memories of say, “The Music City Miracle” will be torn down.

That's the benefit of Nashville being the state capital. I wonder what STL would be if it was the state capital of Missouri? Anyway, loved the new mayor sitting down with the Governor (St. Louisan) yesterday discussing the state of affairs of STL. That can only help!

The Archdiocese of Nashville also allowed people to skip weekly mass if it puts them at risk of being caught and arrested. It has to be pretty serious for the church to say it's okay for you not to attend mass.chris fuller wrote: ↑May 16, 2025Kitchens Close to Avoid ICE at Steve Smith’s Broadway Bars
