I think Ortmann has little chance of getting elected and Guenther is the BoA liason for the Spencer administration. Maybe some fresh faces...I imagine there are lots of interested parties from Benton Park and Tower Grove Soulard neighborhoods.

Shedrick Kelley is running again, and I know of one other person from Soulard who intends to run.

^Good! I was hoping Shedrick would take another go at it.
Alecia Hoyt and Jami Cox Antwi, the others are not needed in the BOA.

I read this article. Hoyt, Kelley, and Antwi all seem good. I will say it's remarkable how even leaders running to represent half of Downtown can’t seem to rally around Downtown as the shared civic heart it ought to be. This article illustrates the consistent reluctance to say "Downtown is our heart and without it, we're all lost". Here and in the Rams negotiation there is/was always a "but". Downtown's success should be the one goal that all St. Louisans share together. Our Neighborhood + Downtown, make that the marketing campaign.
We spend so much time barking at the suburbanites for not supporting the City but I am starting to wonder if Downtown's biggest detractors are within three miles of City Hall.

You have to not live in St. Louis to have this opinion.addxb2 wrote: ↑Jul 01, 2025We spend so much time barking at the suburbanites for not supporting the City but I am starting to wonder if Downtown's biggest detractors are within three miles of City Hall.

I figured Jami Cox Antwi had the edge but I didn't think it would be this kind of blowout.
The two factors that sealed Jamis trajectory were Mayor Spencer's backing and Sherdrick Kelly's access to the VAN database smacking or backroom deals.
Jim Dallas and Alecia Hoyt were pretty much only running in their own neighborhoods (Soulard and Benton Park respectively). And Cam was a Libertarian sideshow. I

CAM MCCARTY 40 2.07%

JAMI COX ANTWI 1,070 55.30%
SHEDRICK KELLEY 352 18.19%

Can you help me understand the highlighted part of your quote? I wasn't paying much attention to this race but understand Kelly was Megan Green's preferred candidate? What am I missing?Baltimore Jack wrote: ↑Jul 02, 2025I figured Jami Cox Antwi had the edge but I didn't think it would be this kind of blowout.

Given the victory size, I have to wonder if the Post saw an opportunity to further connect Green to a failed political sphere when writing this article.

Regardless, Green is not on a path to reelection. Maybe someone with more personal knowledge can supplement but I think Cara Spencer may have the board support locked at this point? At least it appears she has more friends than enemies.

Sure. Shedrick Kelly was the choice of the Drmocratic Central Committee and was able to get ballot access without submitting signatures.
Cam McCarty was also able to bypass the signature route as he was the choice of the Libertarian Party.
The other candidates were running without party backing and had to submit signatures to appear on the ballot.
The VAN voter database was purchased by the Democrats and they decided to only allow Shedrick access as he was the "preferred" Democrat in the race. Even though Cox Antwi, Hoyt and Dallas all consider themselves Democrats.
As Shedrick was 8th ward committee man and is therefore on the deciding body that ruled on VAN voter database it smacked of favoritism to a lot of voters.
I'll amend for the sake of new alder Cox Antwi.addxb2 wrote: ↑Jul 01, 2025https://www.stlpr.org/government-politi ... d-aldermen

For those unfamiliar, she has a blog with maybe two dozen post. She hasn't posted super recently. Included is this one about Downtown St. Louis from 2024. The blog posts aren't super detailed but they confirm she has a vision and her background in real estate finance will be helpful I imagine. Sounds like between her and Aldridge that downtown is in good hands at the BOA.

It's politicians like him that prevents any serious discussions on merger. Even though crooked politics is appearing more and more in the county, you still have a majority of county residents that wants nothing to do with the city's political machinery.
