So...I have a problem. I've been biking to WUSTL for ~7 years and for the last 6 months when this one guy (I do not know him) sees me on the bike path in FP, he screams at me. Today things escalated and he tried to run me off the path. The issue, I gather from his screaming, is that I'm riding a cargo bike on the bike paths (which, as far as I know, is legal). I have just ignored him. Getting screamed at is unpleasant, but having someone try to run me off the path is another thing entirely. Is there anything I can do about this? We cross paths at the same time fairly reliably but even if I videoed him...I guess, I just don't know what to do and would appreciate any advice. I know this isn't exactly urbanism but...I'd like to ride a bike to work and I'm not sure what to do here.
Record him and call the police.jwisch wrote: ↑Apr 09, 2025So...I have a problem. Or just kick his ass. It’s not like the police will care
lol i hope this isn't serious advice. there's a lot of people out there who deserve to be punched in the face imo but all those d*cks can easily get you charged with assault.JaneJacobsGhost wrote: ↑Apr 09, 2025Or just kick his ass. It’s not like the police will care

you should definitely report this to the visitor center which is near history musuem. they could notify ranger.jwisch wrote: ↑Apr 09, 2025So...I have a problem. I will not be punching anyone in the face, but this post did make me laugh about the situation and that's got a tremendous amount of value.

Don't assault the guy, but perhaps pull out your phone and start recording. Try to get the plate. Then make a report to the police.
And perhaps do that more than once if it persists. That way, if the guy ever does anything, there is a record of harassment they can't dodge.

Yeah get videos of the encounters then post the the most egregious ones
Yep. The other person is also on a bike. Which made the efforts to run me off the road kind of...confusing. I didn't understand what he thought he would get out of it.
Yeah just record it and don't be afraid of a physical confrontation if he decides to escalate further. It isn't his personal bike path and odds are you can take him and people like that need to be put in their place. What bike path is this and about when?

^Its never worth physical confrontation... you just never know who is carrying or not... or who is going through a mental break either. Not to go against the channel, but if it were me, I would consider a different route.
This is why you never be mean or confront to your neighbors... you just never know... lol

I'm a delicate flower of a lady. I'm not going to pick a fight with a man.pattimagee wrote: ↑Apr 09, 2025^Its never worth physical confrontation... you just never know who is carrying or not... or who is going through a mental break either. It feels like my choices are deal with 1 crazy guy but be separated from cars or take a route that puts me on a road with cars. Neither of which is ideal. Thanks for the opinions. I was wondering if I was missing an obvious solution but it doesn't really seem like I am.

What I would do is go at a different time than I normally would go or just find a different route to avoid at all cost. Sorry that you have to deal such craziness.

I resisted saying this crazy idea, but have you considered having a conversation with this person?

You would think that a rational person would want to have a conversation before attempting to run someone else off the road.
I think you are right to be concerned about this but I am skeptical the law would do anything about this until it would be too late, as is so often the case with escalating stalking cases.
Wild story. I don’t know why he would he care what kind of bike you have. Especially enough to yell at youjwisch wrote: ↑Apr 09, 2025So...I have a problem. You know anyone that rides a similar route? Safety in numbers might help.
I recently came across an article regarding a previously proposed Central Park observation tower. I was curious what a tower might look like in Forest Park. Chat GPT helped. I kind of like it.

^I've always thought about this as an idea for the Rams money. It would be nice to build something lasting from that money that people can enjoy/use/etc. I had thought it should be something like a outdoor summer oasis water park (Barton Springs like) since it gets so damn hot... but an observatory would be pretty damn cool too (and cheaper, lol).

If you were to build a Forest Park observatory tall enough to see the entire park, downtown, downtown Clayton, etc., I would be a big, big fan.

Definitely adding this one to the park idea list I like brainstorming on. This would provide such interesting views of downtown, CWE, Clayton, Dogtown topography, art hill and the nature of Forest Park, our brick rows, etc. Perfect place for the vantage point to show off the skyline and varied landscape of St. Louis
