They are being used very well. All courts were busy last night.

This is exciting! I am hoping to see much more than a restaurant, splash pad and fountain. Perhaps more functional restrooms that are open year round?quincunx wrote: ↑Nov 19, 2024https://www.stltoday.com/news/local/gov ... 582e3.htmlThe state finance development board also gave its approval to $2 million in tax credits to a nearly $82 million overhaul of Forest Park in St. Louis.

Has anyone biked through FP this week? What's the status of the multi-use paths? Are they clear enough or no?
The roads are clear enough, the bike paths are mixed. They definitely were salted or cleared at some point but that doesn't mean they are clear of ice.

No pics unfortunately but the East Waterways/Jefferson Lake project looks like its coming along rather well. Should be completed sometime this year.
Also, the Biz Journal has a rather long article on Forest Park.

Some of the upcoming priorities:
"The entrances to the park need to be marked better so that each one has its own personality, she said. The Nathan Frank Memorial Bandstand, which will turn 100 years old later this year, needs a lot of work. Renovating the greenhouses is an ongoing project. Cabanne House, an event space near the Union Avenue entrance to the park, could use an interior makeover. The Fish Hatchery building, a cottage near the ponds where the Missouri Department of Conservation holds fishing programs, needs to be renovated. There’s a restroom building to the east of the Visitor Center that has been closed for several years and could become a wine bar or a coffee shop, Hoffarth said."

"The Glade" Ha! I love it. I'm a fan of the glass, and exciting that there will be some sort of cafe/bar space too. Also glad to see that redoing the pedestrian access from Kingshighway is part of this, too.quincunx wrote: ↑Feb 14, 2025KSDK - Forest Park to undergo $100 million restoration project, officials say

Between this and the east waterways project, this will have been a busy few years of construction for that eastern portion of the park, but should all be worth it.

Hasn’t FP been under a dozen $100m renovation for 25 years now
What's your point? Yes, it continues to undergo expensive and impressive upgrades. How lucky are we!?

We can be proud of, and happy for, Forest Park while acknowledging it has become a vanity charity for the local gazillionaires like the WashU endowment, the zoo, Mobot
There are hundreds of other parks in the region that could use wealthy benefactors (Carondelet and Fairground immediately come to mind).

I wonder if many other city parks, including the gateway mall, could be brought under the foundation’s umbrella? Fairground could certainly be a great propeller for its struggling surroundings with beautification and more amenities - idk maybe even some small grant farm type animal attraction by the stl zoo on the old footprint of the bear pits. Maybe a small jazz amphitheater in WC Handy park in Ville. A reimagined boathouse in carondelet park. Some latin american inspired art exhibition/installation in Gravois Park. An over abundance of amenities to activate the gateway mall.JaneJacobsGhost wrote: ↑Feb 14, 2025We can be proud of, and happy for, Forest Park while acknowledging it has become a vanity charity for the local gazillionaires like the WashU endowment, the zoo, Mobot

Forest Park Forever knows how to raise money, so maybe they could be designated the leader on fundraising for these things.
And to stay on topic to Forest Park, I hope the next $100 M renovation is to create beaches along parts of the fantastic waterways and lakes they have connected.

Forest Park Forever did an amazing job raising 90mil for the big revamp in the early 2000s. Promised an endowment and continuing maintenance. Yet they come all the time with new 20/30/100 million campaigns. I won’t tell anyone how to spend their money, but…. would be fund to see these ledgers

St. Louis, like most American cities, spread themselves too thin. They have quantity over quality. Cities like Copenhagen, Helsinki, and Amsterdam have incredible city centers and attract global tourists because they don't have 15 places to shop around the region, they have one.delmar2debaliviere2downtown wrote: ↑Feb 15, 2025I wonder if many other city parks, including the gateway mall, could be brought under the foundation’s umbrella?
Forest Park thrives because it's a regional destination, attracting regional individual and corporate support. It's an entirely Un-American phenomenon. Yes, Fairground Park deserves a support structure like Forest Park or Tower Grove Park but we can't do anything to risk Forest Park Forever, they're too unique.
