Hooters filing for bankruptcy. Maybe doesn’t mean it will shut down but it’s probably not going to last long. Can we give Chili Mac’s a more proper diner location downtown and tear down Keiner garages now???!!!

In all seriousness, I know Jimmy John’s is still there but there’s just no way those garages stay productive for the owner much longer.

We want a safer and more vibrant Downtown St. Louis with retail shops!
  • Developer announces redevelopment of a building.
  • Developer announces teardown of an eyesore hotel.
  • Developer (or City) announces the demolition of a dilapidated parking garage.
  • City announces streetscape improvements.
You see, those aren't good enough because it doesn't stitch together the fabric of Downtown St. Louis. Developers don't have the money for this and investors won't invest here. These are only pretty pictures linked to politicians and their re-election campaigns.

The retardation level of this has exceeded that of my own and y'all have seen my moments on this forum 😂. Someone could come in tomorrow, invest $10 Billion into Downtown St. Louis doing the things they wanted and you'll still hear the complaints. I guess the only solution is to entirely demolish Downtown and start over from scratch.

Pretty much meets my expectations. We are seeing actual crime declines yet it's being rejected by the common bad actors as fake and made up. You can't win.

Post fact world.

The irony of all this is that Brad lives in the county yet tweets from that account.

These people are beyond pathetic. It appears Goldman has deliberately avoided getting involved in the mayoral race by refraining from meeting with either the mayor or Spencer regarding his project until after the election is over. The Cordish/GAPF timeline was established last fall.

The Oliver Properties group appears to be more supportive of Spencer, one of their guys is constantly at her canvass events

AHM announced their plans last fall about starting construction in spring of this year

I had mentioned when I and a couple friends tried to go to “Wave Taco” downtown last year on a summer day we were on Wash Ave thinking to play volleyball and have drinks and we couldn’t figure out if the place was still open or why it wasn’t on a nice friday afternoon.

I guess they were still open but had evening only league hours. And now they are leaving Wash Ave area for Columbia, IL, citing residents leaving downtown and downtown crime.

I think we are all tired of hearing about it, but I think it’s still important to stay informed about the discourse going on about our downtown. I will at least admit that there is an uneasy feeling about the area north of Lucas - it is empty, junkyards, trucking, unused parking lots, large homeless shelter, some camping, and housing projects. I am not sure how easy it would be to attract everyday people to a business in the area (though in my experience, that wasn’t an option for me to just pop into wave taco).

Here’s the announcement for those curious:

“It comes with a very heavy heart and many, many tears that Wave Taco will not be reopening this season. One of the main reasons is SAFETY for our customers and staff. The amount of gunshots we heard at night, police chases we witnessed, drug overdoses, even a drive-by shooting several years ago has made for an unsafe environment, especially given we are outside.  We have had too many incidents over the years with break ins to the bar, car break ins and thefts.  This past year we had the staff and customers threatened with guns including an assault rifle from a group of men hanging out across the street.  We closed early and called the police.  Needless to say, one individual was arrested and just recently released from City Jail with reduced charges and given a restraining order to not be near 1300 Convention Plaza.  Also, this past year one of the individuals who broke into the bar and building was released only to break in again and charges were dropped by the city.  The building is not properly secured and on several occasions we have found homeless people sleeping inside, found needles laying on the floor and almost every storage unit has been broken into including ours.  Many individuals who once lived in the area have moved out of Downtown thus reducing our business over the years.  Additionally, Washington Ave was a vibrant bar district and it too has lost many businesses due to crime.  We fought hard to survive COVID and are proud we were able to get past those days where many businesses were forced to close.  We tried so hard to contribute to the vitalization of Downtown St. Louis and give city residents a recreational activity to play within their own neighborhood.  But, we can no longer sustain the losses we have incurred over the past few years.
We want to thank all of our customers who have supported us over the past 15 years!  We have met so many wonderful people and have so many fond memories at Wave.  Our children literally grew up on the sand and it is most definitely hard to put a close to that chapter.  We have taken a lot of pride in the improvements we made over the years which included a covered/enclosed patio with the addition of TVs, building the tiki huts, expanding from 2 courts to 3 courts and our tropical landscaping.  I most definitely enjoyed making Wave  a tropical oasis where people could take their shoes and shirts off to relax and play a sport we all love while having a drink with family and friends.  The atmosphere was one of the best in volleyball venues.  We have enjoyed hearing all the stories about couples meeting at Wave, some went on to get married and have kids:) We have had engagements and even wedding receptions at Wave.  We also had countless fundraising events which benefited many charities over the years.  There are just so many wonderful memories that I could write a chapter in a book.
We have been very blessed to wake up everyday and truly enjoy our careers.  Being the owner of Wave was a "lifestyle."  We enjoyed making people feel welcomed and happy when they stepped foot in our establishment.  We feel we were a bright spot in a not so great area of Downtown St. Louis.  We were an amenity to the City where it gave many people the opportunity to play and relax at a man made beach in the middle of Downtown, "Where the City Meets the Sand."  Thank you to all of you who made Wave Taco what it was and for allowing us to live out our dream.
On to the next chapter...We are happy to announce we have been given the opportunity to move our leagues to Top Shooters in Columbia, IL!  It is a beautiful establishment with many activities in the bar including golf simulators, darts, pool, ping pong, bags and even slot machines!  They offer a wonderful food and drink menu, an expansive patio with an indoor/outdoor covered area along with an outside bar.  The staff is professional and gives great customer service.  We could not build a better place ourselves!  It is 19 minutes from Wave Taco and most likely closer for the majority of our customers.  We are opening sign ups tonight and spots are very limited!!   It currently has one court, we will be having leagues Sunday-Friday with tournaments on Saturdays.
We hope the majority of you will follow us across the river!!”

Yea I played volleyball there every Tuesday in the summer months for the past three years. Anecdotal, but no one experienced any crime incidents.

TLDR covid killed their business and now they're blaming downtown because that's the cool thing to do.

Their location is horrendous and as mentioned, completely surrounded by parking lots. It's also on the fringe of downtown.

I found out this place existed this morning.

Edit: They’re partnering with a redneck bar where the bartenders don’t wear pants!?

Sad to see it go.  It's been there for at least 15 years.

Description of Top Shooters--where Wave Taco is moving/partnering with:

"Sports bar & grill chain famous for chicken wings served by waitresses in short shorts."

Yep. Doesn't sound at all similar to a national chain currently filing for bankruptcy.

Let's see if they last 15 years there.

If I was a business owner that really wanted to carry out this concept, I would want the Sundeckers building and the parcel behind and build out the beach volleyball courts in the back.

I hate seeing any longtime downtown business go. Here’s to hoping some of the new places become long time staples.

That Citizens for a Greater STL account is sadly symptomatic of the stupidity that exists on the Nazi hellsite. Then Charlie Brennan asking if anyone in STL has read Jane Jacobs? Jeez. I can tell them this, if they are willing to listen. Jane Jacobs would be calling out STL for being so negligent toward the City. If Les cares so much, move back in the city and try to create some positive change.

Also, it’s always MAGA accounts that post this sort of thing and never submit photographic evidence of anything of the sort happening. Does STL have issues downtown? Yes, but let’s face it, unless there’s real evidence of this happening, then no one can create actual change.

Charlie Brennan is bought and paid for by corporate interests. His opinion isn't something that's worth anything.

I've lived and worked in STL for decades and have never experienced a solid 98% of what these people claim to see and experience every time they enter the city. If it's actually happening, I would have experienced it, but I haven't. Because it's made up. Same goes with pretty much everything MAGA says.

They don’t wear short shorts. This place a white trash (or maybe white trashier?) hotshots.

Because I walk the blocks around Euclid/Maryland daily, multiple times a day, I recall this tweet and was very confused.  Over my 3 years here, I've had some minorly unpleasant encounters with homeless but very very very few.  And, nothing like that.  So, I strongly suspect she made it up.  Like many suburbanites, she also calls anything east of Skinker "downtown."

Do you have a link to that tweet? I can no longer find it on her timeline. I swear I read it weeks before the Feb 23 timestamp....she delete it???

It’s in the replies to Les Sterman’s rant about Cordish building on the Riverfront. You think people like him would be happy about private development but now more than ever I’m convinced people like him would rather see DTSTL die.
