How are the Ubers and AVs working the Green Line doing today?

I actually took an Uber up through North City to the airport this morning and the roads aren’t bad. Ice isn’t a factor like last time.

It’s great to see this amount of development this will lead to a more progressive downtown one that will see more foot traffic among other things. I’m very pro downtown so any development is welcomed. Curious to what hotel brand could occupy part of this high rise.dbInSouthCity wrote:Since this administration took office, downtown has experienced significant progress. The Butler Brothers building, once vacant, has been transformed into 384 apartments. The former Downtown YMCA, previously unoccupied, is now the remarkable 21c Museum Hotel. The long-empty Jefferson Arms is just months away from reopening as a mixed-use development featuring 235 apartments, a 225-room hotel, and eight businesses.
The AT&T building, once stagnant, now has a $350 million redevelopment plan, while the long-dormant Millennium site is set for a $670 million transformation. The Railway Exchange, previously inactive, is now progressing toward a redevelopment request for proposals. The Municipal Courts Building, which sat vacant for years, currently has two redevelopment proposals under consideration. Additionally, underutilized lots in Downtown West are slated for projects exceeding $250 million.
This level of progress marks the most significant wave of downtown revitalization since the loft redevelopment boom of the early 2000s.

Dale Ave in Dogtown was sprayed with a liquid at about 5am when road was completely covered. Road is now completely clear going up the hill to McCausland.

Following Spencer's anti-Green Line comments, there is just no way I can give her my vote.

There's no way there will be federal support for a new line under Trump. I don't know what she said but even if she was all on it would be pointless.RockChalkSTL wrote: ↑Feb 19, 2025Following Spencer's anti-Green Line comments, there is just no way I can give her my vote.

^she made a flippant remark about Ubers in an answer to a question about the Green Line.
I support Spencer but I cringed at that reply.
But I completely agree with your sentiment here.
If anyone thinks we're going to get the Green Line under this federal administration they're huffing something.

This is Cato Institute, fossil-fuel industry sponsored type rhetoric.
Spencer said the project had the potential to become an expensive boondoggle.
“At $6.77 per person per mile, four times what it costs to take an Uber, is this worth mortgaging out for the next 50 years, for five miles?” she asked.

This was kind of amusing. At the end of the mayoral forum at Harris Stowe last week the candidates were asked places they liked to frequent in the community.
Tishaura Jones said "you can find me at Harold's Chicken on Union".
Someone in the audience reminded her that Harold's has been closed over a year.

No one has provided that on either side, and that’s not an easy thing to do in this format.
I just will never understand people's boner for Cara Spencer....like...she's a nice person. But, no. She doesn't get much done....some yes.. but mostly defers. And I've seen her speak in person multiple times, both while stumping for mayor and for other reasons...nothing about her screams "this is who has what it takes to be mayor". She is just ok. Tishaura has actually gotten the good work done and has shown time and time again she has the spine for running this city.dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Feb 19, 2025Since this administration took office, downtown has experienced significant progress. I hate to say it.. but I think there's a psychology at work, when it comes to this very puzzling pro-Cara camp. A bias that blinds them to Cara's rather unspectacular record in the citywide scope. And honestly.. I feel is somewhat racially motivated. I do think there is bias against Tishaura because she's been a no bs, confident, well-spoken and proactive black leader. Everyone I've ever asked regarding their dislike of Tishaura (many many) has never summoned an argument with legs against her. It's always generally *shrug* "she just rubs me the wrong way. I just don't like her". That to me feels like implicit bias by middle class white residents... when they can't even admit to Tishaura's administrations quite bountiful wins in relation to anything Cara has achieved as an Alderwoman...and especially when I'm told (again by many many south city residents) that the reason they like Cara is because she responded to some small niche request of theirs in particular once. ...so...that makes her good to be mayor? I'm just forever puzzled by her fanbase...
I have multiple times. Once on this page and once on the snowstorm page. I even included my "negatives" about Jones, things that I haven't liked about her term.Debaliviere91 wrote: ↑Feb 19, 2025No one has provided that on either side, and that’s not an easy thing to do in this format.
But no one interacted with it and completely ignored it. Showing to me at least that no one wants thoughtful discussion.

but according to a prevailing pro-Tishaura argument, one has to have been mayor to have the credentials to be mayor. it's a double standard. and comparing Tishaura's "quite bountiful wins" as mayor to "anything Cara has achieved as an Alderwoman" is not even a valid comparison—as an alderperson, Cara doesn't have the breadth of authority or the staff that the mayor has. i also think people are forgetting some of Cara's efforts over the last decade—from opposing airport privatization to promoting development and street calming infrastructure in her ward to opposing tax-payer handouts for Blues' box seats—as well as her professional experience as a mathematician/analyst, on the Consumer Council of MO, and in community and economic development at St. Louis Bank.SRQ2STL wrote: ↑Feb 19, 2025I just will never understand people's boner for Cara Spencer....like...she's a nice person. i'm not going to get into this stupid mud-slinging bullsh*t, and as I've said before I think Tishaura has done a good job, but let's f*cking stop with the slander and the exaggeration and the stupid f*cking propaganda.
Again, this should all be in the mayor thread. -Jones: MO House (2009-2013), St. Louis Treasurer (2013-2021)
-Krewson: STL BOA (1997-2017)
-Slay: STL BOA (1985-1995), BOA President (1995-2001)
-Harmon: SLMPD Police Commissioner (1992-1995)
-Bosley: Chairman of the St. Louis City Democratic Party, Circuit Clerk for the 22nd Circuit. Hard to find years for him, but he had at least 10 years as the Circuit Clerk.
Spencer: STL BOA (2015-2025)
Any way you cut it, Spencer has not held any office or position remotely close to anything like the Mayor's office while 4 of the last 5 mayors held some position to prepare them for what it's like to run a large, public organization. And the one who didn't, Krewson, was in the BOA for twice as long as Spencer has been there.

It’s not slander to suggest that white residents appear to display implicit bias against the mayor. And your little tirade here at its mere suggestion kinda proves SRQ2STL’s point.urban_dilettante wrote: ↑Feb 19, 2025SRQ2STL wrote: ↑Feb 19, 2025I just will never understand people's boner for Cara Spencer....like...she's a nice person. It's pretty obvious Jones is losing support among non white voters too.

I don’t doubt it. Everyone is big mad at the mayor about a snow storm. Spencer is going to win running away.

can you add some meat to that “13 th ward”. The alder? The 13th ward democratic committee or just Chris Jones ?Baltimore Jack wrote: ↑Feb 19, 2025^the 13th Ward in North St. Louis endorsed Spencer.

White voters in the City of St. Louis are far more willing to vote for black candidates in citywide races than the inverse.

The neighboring 12th Ward is apparently where you can find Tishaura Jones--hanging out at the shuttered Harold's Chicken.

^so if white voters--many of whom voted for Jones 4 and 8 years ago-- don't vote for her this time around it's racism.
But black voters who do the same have misplaced anger over a snowstorm.
I can respect that there are those who think Jones deserves a second term. I do not agree with that sentiment but it does not make their opinion any less valid.
It would be nice for her supporters to respect those who have a different opinion instead of invalidating them.

My experience as a city resident and city business owner the last four years hasn't been the best. It takes four plus months to get a building permit issued. It used to take 4-6 weeks. I often times have to take trash to my jobsites because it doesn't get picked up at my house (that never happened prior to Jones). Getting sidewalks and waterlines repaired at our properties takes longer than it ever has. There was a water main break on the city street in front of one of our buildings. It took over a week to be fixed and required taking out 25 ft of sidewalk. 4 plus months later the sidewalk still has not been replaced. Neighborhood residents have to venture onto the street to walk around. My experience is not unique and I think alot of people are ready for something new as a result.
