The Wood River refinery mostly handles the rough crude from Canada which just got less competitive. Wouldn’t be surprised to hear about slowing production and job reductions there this year
Sounds like CA is going after Bourbon and TN whiskey. AB has Canadian production facilities so likely not any direct effects there.addxb2 wrote: ↑Feb 02, 2025Will be only one of many destructive policies of this already failing administration. Who would’ve known?!

US President Donald Trump hints at removing income tax and replacing it with tariffs.
President Trump appears to call for the end of federal income tax, says it’s time America returns to the “system that made us richer.”
“It's time for the United States to return to the system that made us richer and more powerful than ever before.” “Instead of taxing our citizens to enrich foreign nations, we should be taxing foreign nations to enrich our citizens.”
AWESOME
Is not Trump in good with the new governor of Missouri? If so get rid of the state tax, personal property tax , property taxes, tax on food , tax on............

You do not want to live in a country with no tax revenue. That's called a third world country.chris fuller wrote: ↑Feb 02, 2025US President Donald Trump hints at removing income tax and replacing it with tariffs.

Man, if he’s allowed to fulfill his promises, this regime will go down among the worst of all time.

Donald Trump says Americans could feel 'pain' thanks to tariffs on Mexico, Canada and China
Do we know if potential matching funds for the Green Line are in trouble or has that money been earmarked already?
- 733
So far tariffs & other threats have failed to get Colombia to take back its citizens, failed to get Mexico to help secure the border, failed to get US detainees back from Venuzuela, & failed to get Panama Canal back under US control.
What a disaster this is turning out to be...

Trump pauses Mexico tariffs for one month after agreement on border troops
Somebody blinked

Mexico is sending 10,000 troops to a 2,000 mile border. Trump will sell it as a win. It will likely have little or no impact on the flow of illegal migrants or drugs. And if the soldiers can be or already are compromised by the cartels, could make the situation worse.

I would assume that even if the funds were earmarked that they will be impounded by the White House. It may not be legal but who will stop them?
Trump blinked because the DOW lost 600 points.chris fuller wrote: ↑Feb 03, 2025Trump pauses Mexico tariffs for one month after agreement on border troops

Mexico basically said "we are gonna do [what we have been doing for years]" and Trump took the deal. Immediately walked back on his Saturday statement saying that the tariffs are not negotiable.
It's funny that we never talk about the illegal gun trade from the US to Mexico, where cartels get their guns.

And it’s not just cartels.
The Haitian gangs are using the ARmalite (AR-15) platform that has been the hallmark of the US infantryman since Vietnam.
Paramilitary groups around the world are forgoing the once ubiquitous Soviet platforms in favor of US weapons because the American civilian’s obsession with these weapons has made them economical for terrorists.
The day is quickly approaching when US service members will be killed in large numbers by combatants wielding our own weapons against us. And Rutger, Sig Sauer, and Smith and Wesson will laugh all the way to the bank.
Trump delays Canada tariffs after "deal" that Canada spends $900 million USD on upgrading their border security.
Trump just held a gun to the world economy's head over 8 more guards per mile on the southern border and some more helicopters for the northern border.
And then they will posture around like this was a massive win or something and not the dumbest geopolitical stunt ever.

Canada actually isn't committing to anything they hadn't already planned to do, the extra border spending was announced in December. He held the tariff gun and backed down after a phone call. The damage to US trustworthiness in trade/at the bargaining table and the Canadian shift away from American business resulted in 0 benefits for us.Auggie wrote: ↑Feb 03, 2025Trump delays Canada tariffs after "deal" that Canada spends $900 million USD on upgrading their border security.

Yeah, there is no coming back from this. We've permanently damaged our international reputation from all of this and have begun to drive once staunch allies and trading partners away from us. Quite frankly, I don't think I've ever seen Canadians so united on something. I wouldn't be surprised to see China, Canada, Mexico, and the EU all come to various beneficial trade agreements with each other and leave America in the dust and try to distance their reliance on the dollar since we can't be trusted to be a reliable partner anymore.
I sure hope Panama has every lock on the canal rigged to blow just in case.

It’s funny, most conservatives I know will support or applaud a Democrat who has common sense/moderate views, like Gov Jay Nixon several years ago. (Cue the arrows at me now).
But the avowed leftists would never consider someone one the right. NEVER.
As for what Trump is doing with regard to Canada and Mexico, your pure hatred of the Bad Orange Man distorts all reason. And I can’t figure out why.
Is it lack of good parenting as a kid?
Lack of religion or faith in God?
Physical ugliness that led to a rough childhood?
Lack of friends?
Lack of a solid career? Aka, the St. Louis Syndrome. You know, stuck in a $85K job as a 35 year-old with zero balls to start a business
I feel for you guys. There’s a great world out there that’s not living in a bubble, staring at a computer pissed off ALL THE TIME.
Start a business! Make a move on a hot girl Friday night at a bar! Take a risk!

I would love it if anyone in leadership had moderate views and would stick to them (I'd also love to meet these conservatives willing to cross the aisle, they certainly aren't in government), unfortunately we're stuck with the ones looking to demolish government and trade relations. But I'm sure the "moderates" will express concern as they fall in line behind these extremists.whitherSTL wrote: ↑Feb 04, 2025It’s funny, most conservatives I know will support or applaud a Democrat who has common sense/moderate views, like Gov Jay Nixon several years ago. It must be nice living in your little happy-go-lucky bubble, unaware and uncaring of anything happening in the world or the needs of anyone else, making up your own little version of reality. You truly are living proof of the idiom that ignorance is bliss.
