Great maps, guys!  These are exactly the kinds of visual aids the local media needs to be sharing, because I'd bet that more than half of metro area residents don't have the slightest clue about how St. Louis compares to other metros in terms of land area and population density, etc.  These maps really are worth a thousand words.

PS- happy birthday, db!

I noted in the Census 2020 thread that KC's 1950 city limit (before subsequent annexations) has the 4th largest population loss (by percentage) in the country since 1950.  It is behind St. Louis (1), Detroit (2), and Cleveland (3) with a loss of 56.4%.  I had never seen that comparison before.

Curious where the crime rate for this area of KC would rank compared to St. Louis over the last few years.

Living in Kansas City, I can say that the violent crime rate in that area of the City is likely comparable to St. Louis City. Maybe even has overtaken STL at some points over the last few years. A leapfrog sort of situation.

I’m shocked this story hasn’t caused a complete uproar/meltdown on here; it checks all the boxes…

St. Louis woman admitted to a homicide. Jail let her out and wouldn’t take her back.

Acknowledging that I was incorrectly pessimistic about the city's ability to go further in reducing homicides in 2024, my point still stands going into 2025. South Patrol and Central Patrol seeing small increases over last year. The majority of the reduction has come from North Patrol (113 in 2022 to 64 in 2024). Happy to see it anywhere but it doesn't convince me that new policies/resources/strategies are the cause of the drop.

If the City can go lower next year, in all three patrols, then I'll be convinced something has changed.

With 3 days to go it looks like homicides will come in at a 11 year low & other violent crime categories like robberies, aggravative assault will be at least a 54 year low & as well as violent crime as a whole. Total crime about -7% vs 2023. Complete data will be out after Jan 4th.

btw, as i suspect and later uncovered, Jason Rivera is a fake name and an AI photo.  journalists from KSDK, STL MAG and STL PR on the case now.  this may end up being a pretty big scandal once its reviled who is behind it

You already know but wont share because you want it to come through an official channel is my guess?

The suspense is killing me and I'm practically giddy with anticipation.  Please tell me it's Cory Stark from KMOV.  He's the fading twilight shadow of Steve Savard.

is there a reason to suspect it's a local media personality and not just some rando? not seeing where that assumption is coming from.

KMOV and FOX2 omitted from this list and don't think its a rando due to part I bolded.

We can’t have shootings outside the Dome. There should be enough presence that it just can’t happen. Bad incident to end the year. Downtown has made a lot of progress in crime since 2020 but if I am going to be honest with the situation, we still had too many homicides this year in DT-DT West to turn the corner on one of the lowest downtown perceptions in the country. We just don’t have the energy and vibrancy downtown that can overcome the turning people away impact that shootings like this have.
