Have these people been told about the faregates, lol?
They should be directed to send their e-mails to an inbox that isn't monitored. Their concerns shouldn't be read.

This train has already left the station....pun intended. Only thing that could derail this project at this point is a federal denial, which Les Sterman seems to think will happen.

I live in one the neighborhoods these people claim to represent. They are just a minority view, no one really takes them seriously. I mean they say they would prefer to spend the money on police...it's like you can't reallocate federal transit money to police (unless I'm missing something lol).
That said, my biggest concern is the (I think) coming Trump presidency. How resilient is this project to that unfortunate turn of events?

Yea agreed, yellow was the obvious choice. I also still think the initial phase should be planned to Kingshighway via Natural Bridge and at least Meramec to the south. I will trust that Bi-State started with the phase 1 most likely to break ground though bc they seem to want to get this done badly and have confidence it willaddxb2 wrote: ↑Oct 28, 2024I’m still a little disappointed in Bi-State for not allowing the public to participate in naming the line. I don’t think the feds will deny it - there’s gotta be a reason Bi-State has been so confident

I don't think the project survives a potential Trump presidency, unfortunately, unless the funding for projects like these are secured and Trump can't eff with it.

I believe $91 billion is locked in for this pool of funding regardless of presidency. There is another $20 billion on the table that I think he could touch.RockChalkSTL wrote: ↑Oct 28, 2024I don't think the project survives a potential Trump presidency, unfortunately, unless the funding for projects like these are secured and Trump can't eff with it.
Trump attempted to cut transit and amtrak the first time but it didn't pass. He would need the house and senate to push those kind of cuts. I don't think he'll have control of all 3 branches in November, even of he does win.RockChalkSTL wrote: ↑Oct 28, 2024I don't think the project survives a potential Trump presidency, unfortunately, unless the funding for projects like these are secured and Trump can't eff with it.
I really wish we could have gotten this line to Kingshighway too. Unfortunately, the city just doesn't have the local funds for that with the out of control inflation. We really dropped the ball on a reasonably priced N-S line when Slay was in office. Then the county screwed us with Stenger going against a larger regional line for political reasons. That line would probably be almost built by now if he wasn't being such a a$$hole.delmar2debaliviere2downtown wrote: ↑Oct 28, 2024Yea agreed, yellow was the obvious choice. With that said, I do believe that this line has already gotten the wink and nod from the feds as long as we don't screw it up locally. We're lucky that Tishuara has a came out to be a pro-transit mayor that sees the bigger picture. Now only if we could get some leadership in the county, we may be one step closer to having a much more fleshed out system.
Yes, I also would have liked to see the Yellow line. I always thought the Green Line was going to be the Westport line, considering it would be going through the Plant Science Corridor.
With that said, I wonder of we'd go forward with a modern streetcar system or BRT if we are denied funding.
Finally, I've heard that a lot of other cities that may have jumped us in line for New Starts grants. Your Nashville, Austin, Tampa, etc. have consistently shot down local referendums to start their LRT networks. Which may be a blessing for a slow growth region like St. Louis, which really isn't asking for too much in the grand scheme of things. I also think Seattle, Minneapolis, etc. have already locked in the funding for their ongoing expansions. There is a project on the board in Baltimore, but they are probably still a few years behind us in the planning process. I think we're actually in a good position to steal a grant barring very strange circumstances.

Yellow doesn't have enough contrast with white to be as easily readable as green on most signs.

Isn't there also the idea of going with gold instead of yellow? Doing that would create more contrast and then have an obvious future color as silver.MarkHaversham wrote: ↑Oct 29, 2024Yellow doesn't have enough contrast with white to be as easily readable as green on most signs.
Green also could have been a better color match if loop trolley tracks were converted to real transit and extended through Forest Park. Will be curious what color is used for the County's proposal since it would be a new color. Picture this proposal may be the one more at risk due to political changes than the Green Line due to not being as far along.

When does the County's proposal drop? Last I had heard, we could expect something this fall.
I thought I saw an article that said we should know something by the end of the year. My bet is that any new line in the county will have nothing to do with the proposed N-S line in the city, because the county does not want to be on the hook for the few miles down Natural Bridge in the city. At this point I think the proposal will likely be a spur up into Florissant from the red line. In my opinion, I think the county should have seriously considered the Westport line. That's where a lot of the jobs are and it would add more geography to the system. I'd also like to see the red line go to St. Charles, with stations at Earth City and the St. Charles riverfront, but leadership out there is absolutely delusional.RockChalkSTL wrote: ↑Oct 29, 2024When does the County's proposal drop? All the potential county extensions are already out there as at one time they were in the planning stages for 3 different extension. It’s going to depend on what the county values.goat314 wrote: ↑Oct 29, 2024I thought I saw an article that said we should know something by the end of the year. Jefferson Alignment North Co Extension, Jefferson South Co Extension, Red Line I-70 Extension, Westport Line, Blue Line River Des Peres
It would do the most economically for the city to get those N-S extensions down natural bridge to the northwest and through Loughborough Commons to the south. The Westport Line would also benefit the city because I would guess that the line would run into the existing metrolink at Clayton and follow the rest of the system, giving more frequent headways. I-70 extension would connect more jobs to the city. River Des Peres would touch some dense neighborhoods.
So I’d most like the see just a full build out of N-S as that would benefit density, development, and the metrolink system coverage the most but all of the options do something positive.

I think taking a line up 170, second connection to airport from Clayton, and then either ou my Page to Westport or all the way around 270 to Westport is the best independent county line

Gold would definitely work IMO, especially since the yellow circle on the STL flag ostensibly represents a gold bezant.imperialmog wrote: ↑Oct 29, 2024Isn't there also the idea of going with gold instead of yellow? So any chance this gets lame duck approved then somehow not cancelled by the upcoming admin?
No, this project is dead. It could’ve survived a presidency but the funding will not survive a Republican Congress. My pessimistic view is that this Congress will permanently alter Americas already weak public transportation, beyond cutting funding for new projects.
Enjoy the renderings. It’s the closest you’ll get.

Really doubt it, the GOP can't even get road infrastructure passed, which they have way more interest in, this project is dead or on hold for the near future
I believe the funding is locked in. I am not sure but I don't think that funding can be undone.

There is no funding locked in, the East West Gateway/Metro hasn’t even applied for New Starts construction funding
Also it can be undone, I was working on military planning projects for new childhood development centers across the world for military families when trump admin took all the money to build a wall during his first term
The transportation bill is law until 2026. So unless the Republicans prioritize reversing that law (which they probably have other priorities), I think it still has a chance if we get funding before then. My guess is that current administration will try to release the rest of the funding before the new administration takes office. I believe Metro said we would know by the end of the year if we get the funding. Either way, if the house is not under the control of Democrats we will likely be in a transit dark ages for at least another 4 years.STLAPTS wrote: ↑Nov 06, 2024I believe the funding is locked in.
