^^^I expect it will be somewhat cheap and a bit temporary, given the plans, but they really really need more capacity and fast.

^Which is two zeroes fewer than one important recent project and one upcoming project. Cheap is relative. For a major airport expansion, that seems like a fairly tight budget.

2 new carousels will be in a new building there.  The existing 2 are getting revamped too
Did something change? The last plan I saw and the one from 2018ish only had one new claim.

Attached was the one that went thru the BOA last year. It also includes connecting E24 to customs. I could see it being a bit different. Southwest is going to pay for something that will have a short life so I expect function over looking super nice.

It is only a baggage claim expansion. So it’s not THAT big a project.

^Right. Which is why I think it will be relatively inexpensive. (And maybe I'm nuts but DB's 45M sounds fairly inexpensive to me for a project of this size.) I'm just saying I expect it to be something of a budget building, since it will quickly be replaced and repurposed. It's bigger than most of the projects I've personally worked on, just the same. But I think that actually is smaller than the few I would have called big projects. (Faurot Field expansion, Battle HS. Maybe about the same ballpark as The Broadway.) And the weirdness that is airports has some special needs that add cost to projects fast, I think. But I'm increasingly out of the construction game at this point, and I was a tiny little bit player with crazy lights and speakers, so don't take anything I say too seriously. I just like talking about the airport. (Even when I probably shouldn't.)

It was quoted at 60 mil end of last year. So if it’s 45 now they cut 25% somewhere.

But I’m also hopeful they added space for a crew base in it.

^That would be nice.  I wonder if any of the vacant space on the ground floor of D would work for that? It won't stay vacant long, mind, when they start flopping A tenants over to D for the beginning of the new concourse construction. So expansion might still be needed. But I don't get the impression they even use all the ground floor of A, so maybe there's enough space down there, even if it wouldn't be ideal long term.

Exciting times, either way.

HOK weighs in on designing new airport here. They have done amazing things at LGA, IND and SLC... I say we go local and let then build our fabulous new terminal... because I believe it would be fabulous if they did it as well.

lol. I can’t believe BJ published an obvious ad for HOK as it gears up to bid on the work.

Also this whole thing is dumb, creatives think branding will solve all our issues. I’ve been to about 50 airports (some up to a dozen times) since 2020 and I can’t tell you anything about any of them nor that it changed my perception of that city, I’m too busy trying to make my connections or get out of the airport to sit there and think about how the airport makes me feel about that city

I did find that interesting. I was thinking sooo I guess they assume they are getting the contract?

LGA was a dump. Now it's nice. Neither affected my opinion of NYC.

I feel differently. NYC is unique. I’m willing to go through some hassle to get there. Same thing with the MTA.

Medium sized cities don’t have that luxury. If I hate the airport and I don’t have a requirement to come back, I probably won’t.

Lambert is fine. I look forward to a new terminal. A new terminal isn't going to make someone arriving think, "I guess there isn't as much crime here as I was lead to believe."

Hotel shuttle operator said to a visitor flying to Central America as he was helping her with her bags.

“Y’know they said be careful in Costa Rica but the day I returned someone was shot at BPV. So St. Louis is worse than third world countries”

I don’t know how but someone in the region needs to launch travel training and encourage hotels and transportation companies to get their people trained.

As he dropped me off I said “For the sake of your job, you should be more careful with how you paint your city”

Was it just the lighting or do the domes seem to look real tired on the inside again? If so, I really hope they paint them again once the terminal construction starts.

I feel like the ticketing counters are really showing their age as well. I've never liked the way the current set block the view out the windows so completely on airside. I know it's unlikely, but I have this significant hope they'll find a way to preserve the view out to airside from the terminal building and maybe even move the ticket counters to the middle, Asian style.

If all the people that live here and yet constantly bash their own city left, how many people would be left.  I might be willing to take the short term hit to be rid of them.

First time I have seen targets named by the airport in awhile.

Air Canada’s direct flight to Vancouver is on a wish list for Hamm-Niebruegge that also includes re-establishing direct domestic service to Cincinnati, Indianapolis and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.

In one video from today’s celebration, I saw YVR was in highlighted (filled on) on the backdrop along with YZZ and YUL.

I thought is this a mistake? Reuse of an existing?Or something portentous?
