Started this thread because I didn’t know where else to put this stuff and didn’t want to make a thread every time.
I saw construction going on in the old picklemans on N central today. Did some high level searching and I think it might be becoming a Jimmy John’s. Not 100% sure. Curious if anyone knows.
Some kind of restaurant with a bar in moving into the old craft beer cellar spot. I couldn’t tell what it was by what was on the window. But they built a deck for the patio.

Interesting. It’s an easy walk for us so I appreciate something new. Hopefully they have a happy hour.
Clayton traffic just never came back': Downtown Clayton restaurant permanently shutters
CLAYTON, Mo. — Cantina Laredo, at 7710 Forsyth Blvd. in Clayton, permanently shuttered after its final day of operations Sunday.
The upscale Tex-Mex restaurant never saw traffic recover after the pandemic, Consolidated Restaurant Operations’ Vice President of Marketing Bill Watson said. Dallas-based CRO is a full-service restaurant company that operates and franchises seven restaurant brands across the country, including Cantina Laredo.
“There’s not the number of people (in Clayton) that there were pre-pandemic, especially during the daytime,” he said. “That is an unfortunate reality about a lot of retail businesses and restaurants that are dependent on a core, urban, downtown area.”
The number of people served at the restaurant each week in 2023 was down 40% compared with 2019, Watson said.
CRO partnered with Clayton-based managed care firm Centene Corp. (NYSE: CNC) to open the restaurant, located on the ground floor of Centene Plaza B, a 17-story, 500,000-square-foot office building in downtown Clayton.

I grew up in Dallas, eating frequently at Cantina Laredo there, and it was good. It was also not positioned in any way as upscale. The one in Clayton was horrible. When they started franchising they decided to re-position themselves as more high-end, and it just didn't work. It would be one thing if you were paying less than $15 for lunch, but at their price points, they needed to knock it out of the park. St. Louis severely lacks on the tex-mex front.

The situation is much improved with Arzola’s, El Milagro Azteca, and there’s a new one in the county getting solid reviews. Taco Circus is also OK.
When I worked down there Cantina Laredo was a great place for a work happy hour or to take a client out for a quick bite. I never considered actually going there for dinner with my partner for instance.
The space is cool as hell, I doubt it will be vacant long.

Arzola's is great. I have yet to go to El Milagro. Taco Circus is fine. It is only carry out, and you have to stand in a cigar-smelling waiting room to get your food, which is absolutely gross and a massive turneoff for all of those restaurants sharing that kitchen.
