Another interesting data point is that the final 6 months of 2023 finished down 36% vs LY - so here's hoping there's additional movement south of our full year reduction this year.

Where are they all jailed? I thought the downtown one was already at capacity and the workhouse is closed.
Also is it known where they all reside? It'd be interesting to know the portion of city and non-city residents, given the constraint attack on the earnings tax on non-residents.

I can unequivocally say that being in the city for past 15 years, this NYE was the worst as far as celebratory gunshots are concerned in north of forest park. Do you folks agree? I could hear more celebratory gunshots than fireworks on NYE.

I think the post Covid Kia & Hyundai thefts, which double & nearly tripled annual car theft (they’re on the decline in 2023 too) is really clouding peoples perception of crime. Violent crime in 2023 will be lower than any point since 2008( as late as data on SLMPD website goes) than I found some fbi data that goes to 1995. So it may actually be lowest since the 70s since 80s and 90s were brutal
In 1995 we averaged 14 robberies a day and in 2023 just 2. -85%, even if you account for pop lose -20 (375k to 300, 375 is midway from 1990 and 2020) census.
The 3 in yellow are data through Nov 2023 + added Nov 2023 as a place holder for Dec since SLMPD hasn’t published it yet but it wouldn’t change much and even if it does it may actually go down.

But that's anecdotal. Anecdotal evidence can lead us astray pretty quickly. My property taxes (also anecdotal) tell a very different story. (I'm a few blocks southeast of Grand and Bates in an area that's still pretty blue-collar.)

Would be nice to take advantage of these wins... I wonder if GreaterSTL shouldn't try and have the metropolitan and St. Louis City/County crime statistics combined and ready before all of these 'ranked city crime articles' come out. Also seems like a good idea for the PR firm to do the same if we hire one out?
You can google search who does them, contact them before they even start on them, and offer the statistics ready to go ahead of time. Offer an explanation as to why we're different. Probably not worth it, but maybe worth a try?
